You can programmatically use the Simple MAPI calls MAPIAddress or MAPIResolveName to display the Outlook Address Book so that you can select recipients. When you do so, if Outlook Express is set as your default e-mail client, and you select a distribution list as a recipient, user names may not appear. When you run the program code in a debugger, you may discover that the returned lpszAddress attribute of the MAPIRecipDesc structure contains garbage characters instead of the expected e-mail address or empty (NULL) string.

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 6 service pack that contains this fix.
Download: Microsoft Outlook Express MAPI-Hotfix 820369
