Hallo alle, hallo ECS K7S5A-User. ;D
Da auch hier des öfteren nach der Kompatibilität des K7S5A mit dem Athlon XP
gefragt wird und eine riesige Verwirrung über die Revisionsnummer herrscht,
habe ich folgende Fragen an alle K7S5A mit Athlon XP-User:
Welches BIOS setzt ihr ein? (Kann man kurz nach dem Einschalten am unteren
Bildschirmrand sehen, z.B. 010920 oder 011016)
Welche Zahl steht auf dem kleinen, quadratischen, weißen Aufkleber (4x4mm),
der sich, zu den Slotblenden gerichtet, im Bereich des 4. und 5. PCI-Slots befindet?
Klebt in unmittelbarer Nähe des CPU-Sockels ein Aufkleber mit der Aufschrift "XP"
(können auch zwei sein).
Ich habe nochmal recherchiert im Forum von OC-Workbench.
Wie es aussieht, läuft der XP auf allen "Revisionen" mit allen BIOS-Versionen.
Selbst das (meiner Meinung nach) Original-BIOS 010724 unterstützt bereits
einen Morgan. Ist ein Morgan nicht ein Duron auf Palomino (XP)-Basis?
Ich hoffe auf umfangreiches Feedback, vielleicht können wir das leidige Thema
ja dann endlich begraben.

...and if you look at the bios page you will see that all bioses are for board
version 1.x
#2 mean rev 1.2 #6 rev 1.6

you can use ANY k7s5a board with an athlon xp if you have bios version 010911
or later. both I and the admin are using an athlon xp 1500+ on a "rev" 0 board.

There is a lot of confusion at this point.
On ECSUSA-forum the support did tell that there is even no rev 3 out.
The numbers, which revision would fit to XP does not match to the small
sticker on PCI5.
The explanation on the ECS-sites, where to look for the board-revision-number
(between the pci-slots) does not fit to the K7S5A.
The changes, which could be for the XP (the Zp-resistor) was introduced with
#4 on the sticker, but 4 does not match any revision-number in an ECS-paper
or in an AMD-paper, which board you should use.
In practice, people here on the board say that XP will work on all revisions,
and on #4 or higher (white sticker) they may even run better than normal Athlons.

i'm using a rev2 with xp1600+, it works perfectly

I only have five Athlon XP chips to test with, but overall they seem to work
very well on almost every one of the several dozen motherboards I've tested
(with and without the "fix"). Unless I hear otherwise from other users, I think
it is safe to recommend an Athlon XP chip to solve problems at 133/133 or Memtest.
