AMD Dual-Core Optimizer

Der AMD Dual-Core Optimizer für AMD Athlon 64 X2 und AMD Turion 64 X2 Prozessoren synchronisiert die Time Stamp Counter (TSC) MSRs bei AMDs Dual-Core Prozessoren.

Heise online hat das Problem von Threads, die sich per Timestamp-Counter synchronisieren und dabei aus dem Takt geraten, bereits Ende letzten Jahres unter dem Titel "Zeitmissmanagement" <a href="http://www.heise.de/ct/05/24/026/" target="b">beschrieben</a>.

Die Beschreibung von AMD:
<ul><i>"The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core or multiple processor systems."</i></ul>

Was hat eigentlich Intel gemacht, um dieses Problem zu umgehen?

das würde mich auch mal interessieren...vllt muss man die Intels nicht erst optimieren?

Ist jetzt der Windows Patch KBxxx256 V3 überflüssig?
