Das wohl wichtigste ist die Herausnahme der Anwendungsprofile, zu denen auch die CrossFire Profile gehören, aus dem eigentlichen Treiber hinein in ein davon getrenntes .XML File. Dadurch ist es AMD möglich schneller Updates der Anwendungsprofile bereitzustellen, da man nicht mehr den gesamten Treiber zunächst von Microsoft WHQL zertifizieren lassen muss. In einem <a href="http://www.elitebastards.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1249&catid=25:eb-interviews&Itemid=29" target="b">Interview</a> ging Terry Makedon, Manager of Software Product Management, sogar soweit, dass er Updates der Profile noch am Veröffentlichungstag neuer Spiele versprach.

<a href="http://twitter.com/CatalystMaker/statuses/11797345620" target="b">Gestern hat AMD</a> das zweite Update dieser "ATI CrossFireX Application Profile" bereitgestellt. Darin sollen folgende Verbesserungen enthalten sein:
<ul><li>Battlefield Bad Company 2 Fix - horizontal lines are no longer observed when running an ATI CrossFireX configuration</li><li>Battlefield Bad Company 2 Fix - flickering and black square corruption is no longer observed when running on single card ATI Radeon products</li><li>Forcing on Anti-Aliasing through ATI Catalyst Control Center is now supported in the following titles: Supreme Commander 2, Dirt2, Avatar and Battlefield Bad Company2 (single GPU configurations)</li><li>StarCraft(r) II: Wings of Liberty beta on ATI Radeon™ 5800 products running in an ATI CrossFireX configurations : moving units near the edge of a cliff no longer causes them to fall because the height field is corrupted</li></ul>
Da immer wieder Fragen zur Bedeutung und Funktion der Profile auftauchen, wurde auf <a href="http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33961798" target="b">Rage3D eine FAQ</a> zu den "Catalyst Application Profiles" zusammengestellt. Dabei handelt es sicher aber nicht um eine offiziell von AMD abgesegnete FAQ!

Wenn man sich die Verbesserungen so anschaut, ist das für "normale" Leute offenbar auch interessant.

Außerdem gibt es möglicherweise von ein paar Community-Gurus zukünftig auch inoffizielle XML-Dateien, die man selbst einbauen kann, um weniger gut supportete Spiele zu "reparieren", falls das notwendig sein sollte.

Die ATI CrossFireX Application Profile sind grundsätzlich auch immer für Nutzer nur einer Grafikkarte interessant! Es sind nicht nur die CrossFire Profile enthalten.

-> Anti-Aliasing

Naja dann ist die Bezeichnung ein wenig Irreführend. Auf jedenfall ist die Trennung von Treiber und Profilen zu begrüßen.
