<div class="newsfloatleft"><a href="http://www.virtualbox.org/"><img src="http://www.planet3dnow.de/photoplog/images/54308/1_VBox_Logo.png" border="1" alt="VirtualBox"></a></div>Die kostenlose Virtualisierungssoftware VirtualBox wurde in der Version 4.1.4 veröffentlicht, in die eine Reihe von Bugs ausgebessert wurden. Vor der Version 4 existierten zwei verschiedene Pakete. Zum einen die Closed-Source-Variante ("full binary") und zum anderen die "Open Source Edition" (OSE), der ein paar Funktionen vorenthalten blieben. Seit der Version 4 wird nur noch die "Open Source Edition" zum Download angeboten. Die zusätzliche Funktionalität, die bisher der Closed-Source-Variante vorbehalten war, kann durch das nicht quelloffene Extension Pack nachgerüstet werden.
VirtualBox ist für Windows, Mac OS X, Linux und Solaris verfügbar. Zu den unterstützten Gastsystemen zählen neben Windows, Mac OS X, Linux und Solaris auch OS/2, DOS und einige BSD-Derivate.<p style="clear:left">
