Sunnyvale, CA, 5. September 2007 — AMD kündigte heute Pläne zum weiteren Ausbau seiner Führungsposition bei Grafiksoftware an. Linux-Anwender profitieren von höherer Grafikrechenleistung und optimierter Kompatibilität der ATI Radeon™ Grafik. Diese Verbesserungen sollen ab Anfang September sukzessive in alle kommende Versionen von ATIs Softwarepaket Catalyst™ eingearbeitet werden. Die heutige Ankündigung ist ein wesentlicher Schritt bei der Neuausrichtung des Grafikumfelds für private Linux-Anwender. Für die Zukunft plant AMD, Aktivitäten zu beschleunigen, die die Bedürfnisse der Open Source Community adressieren.

Noch im September wird AMD die Software Version Catayst 7.9 auf den Markt bringen. Damit werden die Grafikprozessoren der ATI Radeon™ HD 2000-Serie Linux-kompatibel. Linux-Anwender profitieren von zahlreichen neuen Funktionen wie etwa AMDs patentierter Unified-Shader-Architektur.

Neben einem erweiterten GPU-Support bietet Catalyst™ 7.9 mehrere wesentliche Leistungsverbesserungen. So lässt sich zum Beispiel bei beliebten Computerspielen wie Doom 3 und Quake 4 mit Catalyst 7.9 eine Leistungssteigerung um bis zu 90 Prozent erzielen. Im vierten Quartal 2007 wird AMDs Catalyst Softwarepaket für Linux auch AIGLX-Technologie (Accelerated Indirect GLX) unterstützen. AIGLX ist eine Basistechnologie, die auf einer Linux-Arbeitsoberfläche beeindruckende 3D-Effekte für fesselnde Computererlebnisse ermöglicht.
