<div class="newsfloatleft"><img src="http://www.planet3dnow.de/photoplog/images/54308/small/1_AMD_Radeon_-_Catalyst_Logo.png" border="0" alt="AMD Catalyst Software"></div>AMD hat eine aktualisierte Version des AMD <i>Catalyst Application Profiles</i> (CAPs) veröffentlicht, in dem laut den offiziellen Release Notes das Profil für ein Computerspiel überarbeitet wurde. Mit dem neuen CAP wollen die Entwickler eine höhere Performance aus <i>Far Cry 3</i> herauskitzeln, wenn Antialiasing genutzt wird und nur eine einzelne Radeon-Grafikkarte (GPU) im Einsatz ist.
Seit dem <a href="http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi?id=1266436878" target="b">ATI Catalyst 10.2</a> hat AMD die ATI CrossFireX Application Profiles aus dem eigentlichen Treiber herausgelöst, sodass Updates dieser Profile wesentlich schneller den Kunden zugänglich gemacht werden können. Die CAPs sind allerdings nicht nur für <b>CrossFire</b>-Systeme interessant, sondern auch für alle anderen Besitzer einer Radeon-Grafikkarte. Beispielsweise konnten die <a href="http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi?id=1277377438">Ladezeiten für neue Karten in Battlefield: Bad Company 2</a> durch eine Aktualisierung des CAPs verkürzt werden. Zudem wird für bestimmte Anwendungen das Zuschalten von Anti-Aliasing über das Catalyst Control Center <a href="http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi?id=1270753048">ermöglicht</a> oder <a href="http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi?id=1291843181">deaktiviert</a>, wenn Probleme aufgetreten sind. Zukünftig will AMD auch Profile bereitstellen, durch die in bestimmten DirectX-11-Games der Tessellationfaktor automatisch vom Treiber reduziert wird, um so die Rechenlast zu reduzieren. Dies soll in erster Linie bei der Verwendung von kleineren Grafikbeschleunigern überhaupt erst die Aktivierung des Tessellation-Features ermöglichen. Bisher existiert allerdings kein derartiges Profil.
Mit den monatlich veröffentlichten AMD-Catalyst-Treiberpaketen wird wie bisher ebenfalls ein CAP ausgeliefert, welches aber meistens zwei bis drei Monate älter ist. In den <a href="http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi?id=1292238229">künftig im wöchentlichen Rhythmus</a> erscheinenden Updates sind jeweils auch sämtliche vorangegangenen Änderungen enthalten. Um die installierten Anwendungsprofile auf dem aktuellsten Stand zu halten, müssen Besitzer von AMD-Radeon-Grafikkarten demnach lediglich das aktuellste CAP-Update installieren. Zuvor sollte ein eventuell vorhandenes, altes CAP deinstalliert werden!<p style="clear:left">

Kurze Info noch zu dem CAP:
Bei mir funktioniert es, wenn ich es zusammen mit dem Catalyst 12.11 Beta 11 unter Win 8 installiere.
Unter Win7 auf meinem alten Notebook mit dem Catalyst 12.6 Legacy hingegen wird es nicht korrekt installiert. Es kommen hier nach der erfolgreich beendeten Installation lediglich die Profile aus dem Treiber zum Einsatz.
Wie es mit anderen Treiberkombinationen aussieht kann ich nicht sagen.
In die Liste der Änderungen habe ich auch das Catalyst 12.11 CAP1 aufgenommen, welches nur halboffizielle erschienen war. Dessen Änderungen/Optimierungen sind natürlich ebenfalls vollständig mit im CAP2 enthalten.

Ich kann mittlerweile sagen, dass dieses CAP2 auch mit dem Catalyst 12.11 Beta 4 nicht funktioniert/die aktuelleren Profile nicht genutzt werden.

Also beim 12.11 Beta 8 hatte ich den cap1 nicht installiert weil einerseits der fehlerhaft ist und schon in der version 12.11 beat 8 drin ist.
Beim 12.11 Beta 11 bin ich mir nicht so sicher ob der cap2 drin ist.

In keinem von den beiden genannten Treibern ist das Catalyst 12.11 CAP1 oder Catalyst 12.11 CAP2 enthalten. Es sind lediglich wie bei allen Treibern ebenfalls Profile enthalten, die aber eben einen deutlich älteren Stand haben als diejenigen, welche über das separate CAP installiert werden.
