MSI, Taipei, Taiwan – MSI, a world-class IT product design and manufacturing powerhouse long committed to the development of innovative design concepts, today announced the new K9NU Speedster motherboard and P1-106 System which support the newly launched Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ processor. Today's announcement further demonstrates MSI's advanced research and development capabilities.

Fully supporting Quad-Core AMD Opteron Processors
Coupled with NVIDIA nForce 3400 chipset, K9NU-Speedster motherboard and P1-106 server barebone focus on the entry-level server market, supporting one Quad-Core AMD Opteron 2200 Series processor and delivering superior processing performance with a low total cost of ownership (TCO). NVIDIA nForce Pro 3400 supports 1GHz HyperTransport in full-duplex mode, so bi-directional throughput can reach 8GB/s to reduce bottlenecks of data transfer. What’s more, K9NU-Speedster also provides a maximum memory bandwidth up to 8.5GB/s (DDR2-533) or 10.5GB/s (DDR2-667).

Powerful spec to boost performance
K9NU-Speedster motherboard and P1-106 Server barebone provide eight DIMMs supporting a maximum 32GB registered ECC DDR2-533/667 memory combined with a higher bus frequency for more bandwidth and system boosting performance. Its high performance XGI Volari Z7 graphic processor with 16MB video memory can meet users’ needs without adding another discrete graphics adapter. Otherwise, if you need faster graphics performance, K9NU-Speedster motherboard and P1-106 Server barebone provide two PCI-E x16 slots supporting NVIDIA SLI technology for future expansion.

Expansion for future
About expansion, K9NU-Speedster mainboard and P1-106 Server barebone provide six SATA II ports with RAID 0/1/0+1/5 mode for more efficient data processing, higher transfer performance, and more secure data integrity. Two PCI-E x1 slots and one 32bit PCI slot offer the advantage of expansion for future growth.

Dual GbE speed communication
K9NU-Speedster mainboard and P1-106 Server barebone embed dual GbE LAN ports based on Marvell’s 1116 PHY to speed network bandwidth and response times for higher efficiency when transferring large files or providing multimedia/communication services.

HeatPipe: Optimized solution for thermal
K9NU-Speedster montherboard and P1-106 Server barebone introduce the latest heatpipe thermal solution. Compared with independent big heat-sinks or fans, heatpipes provides better performance, stability and space-savings. Consequently, heatpipes can extend product life and avoid overheating.

Norman Tsai, Vice President of MSI's Enterprise Platform Product Sales Division, said that MSI is proud to maintain its strong relationship with AMD by supporting the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor launch with a series of new mainboards targeted for the server market. Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors are designed to offer better performance in the same thermal envelopes as the current generation of AMD Opteron processors. The new server mainboards provide high performance, high stability, and an increase in overall product efficiency. MSI continues to drive technology leadership by supporting the first native quad-core processor architecture in the x86-based computing market.

"MSI and AMD have worked together to optimize Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors with these new server solutions, resulting in new levels of platform performance for our combined solution," said Vincent Lai, Director of MSI's Global Marketing Group. "With the introduction of the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, our partners and customers benefit from increased platform choice and increased performance headroom made possible by advances in the AMD platform and our joint work on enhancing server compatibility."

"MSI and AMD share a commitment to deliver innovative technologies that matter most to customers," said Patrick Patla, Director of Product Management, Server/Workstation Division, AMD (NYSE: AMD). "By incorporating the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor into their latest product line, customers of MSI can realize significantly improved performance within the same power envelopes as AMD's current generation of dual-core processors, which means higher performance-per-watt capabilities without the need to alter datacenter infrastructure."
