The USB<\/span> Type\u2011C spe\u00adci\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon defi\u00adnes Func\u00adtion\u00adal Exten\u00adsi\u00adons that enable USB<\/span> Type\u2011C hosts and devices to sup\u00adport optio\u00adnal capa\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties. The Func\u00adtion\u00adal Exten\u00adsi\u00adons include Alter\u00adna\u00adte Modes, an opti\u00adon that per\u00admits a ven\u00addor or stan\u00addards orga\u00adniza\u00adti\u00adon to uti\u00adli\u00adze the USB<\/span> Type\u2011C cable and con\u00adnec\u00adtor and pro\u00advi\u00adde addi\u00adtio\u00adnal fea\u00adtures. The USB<\/span> Power Deli\u00advery (PD<\/span>) v2.0 spe\u00adci\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon updates the USB<\/span> PD<\/span> v1.0 spe\u00adci\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon to meet the requi\u00adre\u00adments of the USB<\/span> Type\u2011C spe\u00adci\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon and to incor\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adte addi\u00adtio\u00adnal chan\u00adges. If a USB<\/span> Type\u2011C host or device sup\u00adports Alter\u00adna\u00adte Modes, the host and device will use USB<\/span> Power Deli\u00adveryS\u00adtruc\u00adtu\u00adred Ven\u00addor Defi\u00adned Mes\u00adsa\u00adges (Struc\u00adtu\u00adred VDMs) to dis\u00adco\u00adver, con\u00adfi\u00adgu\u00adre and enter\/exit Alter\u00adna\u00adte Modes. The USB<\/span> Power Deli\u00advery Struc\u00adtu\u00adred VDMs are defi\u00adned to extend the func\u00adtion\u00ada\u00adli\u00adty a device expo\u00adses. Only Struc\u00adtu\u00adred VDMs shall be used to alter the USB<\/span> func\u00adtion\u00ada\u00adli\u00adty or recon\u00adfi\u00adgu\u00adre the pins the USB<\/span> Type\u2011C con\u00adnec\u00adtor expo\u00adses.
