The L\u2011<span class=\"caps\">CSC<\/span> clus\u00adter was the first and only super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter on the list to sur\u00adpass 5 gigaflops\/watt (bil\u00adli\u00adons of ope\u00adra\u00adti\u00adons per second per watt). It was powered by Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs and a <span class=\"caps\">FDR<\/span> Infi\u00adni\u00adband net\u00adwork and acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adted by <span class=\"caps\">AMD<\/span> Fire\u00adPro\u2122 <span class=\"caps\">S9150<\/span>&nbsp;GPUs.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the top three slots of the Green500 were powered by three dif\u00adfe\u00adrent acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adtors with num\u00adber one, L\u2011<span class=\"caps\">CSC<\/span>, being powered by <span class=\"caps\">AMD<\/span> Fire\u00adPro\u2122 <span class=\"caps\">S9150<\/span> GPUs; num\u00adber two, Sui\u00adren, powered by <span class=\"caps\">PEZY-SC<\/span> many-core acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adtors; and num\u00adber three, <span class=\"caps\">TSUBAME-KFC<\/span>, powered by <span class=\"caps\">NVIDIA<\/span> K20x GPUs. Bey\u00adond the\u00adse top three, the next 20 super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adters were also accelerator-based.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2011<span class=\"caps\">CSC<\/span> achie\u00adved the first posi\u00adti\u00adon on the Novem\u00adber 2014 Green500 List with an impres\u00adsi\u00adve 5.27 giga\u00adflops per watt. This sys\u00adtem used Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs, <span class=\"caps\">AMD<\/span> Fire\u00adPro GPUs, and ener\u00adgy-effi\u00adci\u00adent soft\u00adware design to achie\u00adve this feat. Sui\u00adren, a super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter from the High Ener\u00adgy Acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adtor Rese\u00adarch Organization\/<span class=\"caps\">KEK<\/span> in Japan, occu\u00adp\u00adied the second spot at 4.95 giga\u00adflops per watt. Like L\u2011<span class=\"caps\">CSC<\/span>, it used Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs, but cou\u00adpled them with many-core acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adtors from <span class=\"caps\">PEZY-SC<\/span>. Final\u00adly, <span class=\"caps\">TSUBAME-KFC<\/span>, which was the most ener\u00adgy-effi\u00adci\u00adent super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter over the pre\u00advious two edi\u00adti\u00adons of the Green500, came in third in this edi\u00adti\u00adon of the Green500. <span class=\"caps\">TSUBAME-KFC<\/span> was the first super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter to have bro\u00adken the 4 gigaflops\/watt bar\u00adri\u00ader. Like the other two acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adtor-based machi\u00adnes, it used Intel Ivy Bridge CPUs, but cou\u00adpled with <span class=\"caps\">NVIDIA<\/span> K20x&nbsp;GPUs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other high\u00adlights from this Green500 List include the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This marks the first time that a super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter (L\u2011<span class=\"caps\">CSC<\/span>) using <span class=\"caps\">AMD<\/span> GPUs has held the top&nbsp;spot.<br>\nThe Sui\u00adren super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter is the first sys\u00adtem desi\u00adgned with cus\u00adtom acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adtors to enter the top five sin\u00adce Novem\u00adber of 2010, when the <span class=\"caps\">GRAPE-DR<\/span> super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter achie\u00adved the same&nbsp;feat.<br>\nThe <span class=\"caps\">PEZY-SC<\/span> many-core acce\u00adle\u00adra\u00adtors in the Sui\u00adren super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter use <span class=\"caps\">ARM<\/span> con\u00adtrol\u00adled cores.
