Intel and AMD<\/span> expect that ana\u00adlog dis\u00adplay out\u00adputs such as Video Gra\u00adphics Array (VGA<\/span>) and the low vol\u00adta\u00adge dif\u00adfe\u00adren\u00adti\u00adal signal\u00ading tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy (LVDS<\/span>) panel inter\u00adface would no lon\u00adger be sup\u00adport\u00aded in their pro\u00adduct lines by 2015. HDMI<\/span> has incre\u00adasing\u00adly been included in new PCs for easy con\u00adnec\u00adtion to con\u00adsu\u00admer elec\u00adtro\u00adnics devices. Dis\u00adplay\u00adPo\u00adrt is expec\u00adted to beco\u00adme the sin\u00adgle PC<\/span> digi\u00adtal dis\u00adplay out\u00adput for embedded flat panels, PC<\/span> moni\u00adtors and projectors.<\/p>\n

Dis\u00adplay\u00adPo\u00adrt and HDMI<\/span> allow for slim\u00admer lap\u00adtop designs, and sup\u00adport hig\u00adher reso\u00adlu\u00adti\u00adons with deeper color than VGA<\/span> \u2013 a tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy which is more than 20 years old. Addi\u00adtio\u00adnal\u00adly, as lap\u00adtops get smal\u00adler and their embedded flat panel reso\u00adlu\u00adti\u00adons increase for more immersi\u00adve expe\u00adri\u00aden\u00adces, the power advan\u00adta\u00adges, bi-direc\u00adtion\u00adal com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons and design effi\u00adci\u00aden\u00adcy bene\u00adfits of Dis\u00adplay\u00adPo\u00adrt make it a supe\u00adri\u00ador choice over LVDS<\/span>, the pre\u00advious stan\u00addard for LCD<\/span> panel inputs.<\/p>\n

Intel plans to end sup\u00adport of LVDS<\/span> in 2013 and VGA<\/span> in 2015 in its PC<\/span> cli\u00adent pro\u00adces\u00adsors and chipsets.<\/p>\n

AMD<\/span> plans to begin pha\u00adsing out lega\u00adcy inter\u00adfaces, start\u00ading with the rem\u00adoval of nati\u00adve LVDS<\/span> out\u00adput from most pro\u00adducts in 2013. The com\u00adpa\u00adny also plans to remo\u00adve nati\u00adve VGA<\/span> out\u00adput start\u00ading in 2013, with expan\u00adsi\u00adon to all AMD<\/span> pro\u00adducts by 2015. This would mean DVI<\/span>\u2011I sup\u00adport will be eli\u00admi\u00adna\u00adted in the same timeframe.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>Dis\u00adplays and dis\u00adplay stan\u00addards are rapidly evol\u00adving, with new fea\u00adtures such as mul\u00adti-dis\u00adplay sup\u00adport, ste\u00adreo\u00adsco\u00adpic 3\u2011D, hig\u00adher reso\u00adlu\u00adti\u00adons and increased color depth quick\u00adly moving from ear\u00adly adop\u00adter and niche usa\u00adge to main\u00adstream appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon,\u201d said Eric Demers, AMD<\/span>\u2019s chief tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy offi\u00adcer, Gra\u00adphics Divi\u00adsi\u00adon. \u201cLega\u00adcy inter\u00adfaces such as VGA<\/span>, DVI<\/span> and LVDS<\/span> have not kept pace, and newer stan\u00addards such as Dis\u00adplay\u00adPo\u00adrt and HDMI<\/span> cle\u00adar\u00adly pro\u00advi\u00adde the best con\u00adnec\u00adti\u00advi\u00adty opti\u00adons moving for\u00adward.
