The new sys\u00adtem, Big Red 200, is named for the IU<\/span> Bicen\u00adten\u00adni\u00adal and will replace the high\u00adly suc\u00adcessful Big Red II<\/span> Cray super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter, which began ser\u00advice in 2013 but is beco\u00adming obso\u00adle\u00adte. Big Red 200 will beco\u00adme ful\u00adly ope\u00adra\u00adtio\u00adnal on IU<\/span>\u2019s bicen\u00adten\u00adni\u00adal anni\u00adver\u00adsa\u00adry on Jan. 20, 2020.<\/p>\n

How fast is Big Red 200? It would take ever\u00adyo\u00adne in the sta\u00adte of India\u00adna more than 28 years \u2014 per\u00adforming one cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon per second 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year \u2014 to per\u00adform the same num\u00adber of cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons that Big Red 200 can do in just one second. It is almost 300 times fas\u00adter than the ori\u00adgi\u00adnal Big Red super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter from 15 years ago.<\/p>\n
