On Octo\u00adber 10th, the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of the Balea\u00adric Islands (UIB<\/span>) signed a con\u00adtract with Atos for the acqui\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adon of the new super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter of IFISC<\/span> (Insti\u00adtu\u00adte for Inter\u00addi\u00adsci\u00adpli\u00adna\u00adry Phy\u00adsics and Com\u00adplex Sys\u00adtems). The new super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adting clus\u00adter will be used for Big Data ana\u00adly\u00adsis and inten\u00adsi\u00adve nume\u00adri\u00adcal simulations.<\/p>\n

The offer pre\u00adsen\u00adted by Atos was the best eva\u00adlua\u00adted among the 11 recei\u00adved in the public ten\u00adder held at the Euro\u00adpean level for the acqui\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adon of the clus\u00adter. Among the cha\u00adrac\u00adte\u00adristics of the new equip\u00adment, it stands out to be built on Bull Sequa\u00adna X430A5<\/span> ser\u00advers with pro\u00adces\u00adsors of last gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon AMD<\/span> EPYC<\/span> Rome with Zen\u20112 archi\u00adtec\u00adtu\u00adre of 7nm with excel\u00adlent com\u00adpu\u00adta\u00adtio\u00adnal per\u00adfor\u00admance and unsur\u00adpas\u00adsed com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon band\u00adwidth (8 memo\u00adry chan\u00adnels at 3200MHz, 128 chan\u00adnels PCIe4.0). The clus\u00adter has 960 cores, 12TB<\/span> of memo\u00adry and 76TB<\/span> of sto\u00adrage and com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons at 25Gb\/s bet\u00adween the ser\u00advers and with over\u00adall per\u00adfor\u00adman\u00adces signi\u00adfi\u00adcant\u00adly supe\u00adri\u00ador to the other pro\u00adpo\u00adsals. Deli\u00advery and instal\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon is sche\u00addu\u00adled for Decem\u00adber 2019.<\/p>\n

The acqui\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adon of the equip\u00adment is framed in the infra\u00adstruc\u00adtu\u00adre pro\u00adject EQC2018-004787<\/span>\u2011P AEI<\/span>\/FEDER<\/span> UE<\/span> of the Spa\u00adnish Plan for Sci\u00aden\u00adti\u00adfic and Tech\u00adni\u00adcal Rese\u00adarch and Inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon 2017\u20132020 and is fun\u00added by the Minis\u00adtry of Sci\u00adence Inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon and Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adties (Spain), the Spa\u00adnish Rese\u00adarch Agen\u00adcy (AEI<\/span>), the Euro\u00adpean Regio\u00adnal Deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment Fund (ERDF<\/span>) and the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of the Balea\u00adric Islands.<\/p>\n

A very sub\u00adstan\u00adti\u00adal part of the sci\u00aden\u00adti\u00adfic pro\u00adduc\u00adtion of IFISC<\/span> is based on inten\u00adsi\u00adve nume\u00adri\u00adcal simu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons of models appro\u00adpria\u00adte to the descrip\u00adti\u00adon of various com\u00adplex sys\u00adtems. IFISC<\/span> has taken advan\u00adta\u00adge of the oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adties ari\u00adsing from the pro\u00adces\u00adsing of lar\u00adge amounts of data (Big Data) from infor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgies and has pla\u00adced its\u00adelf in a posi\u00adti\u00adon of lea\u00adder\u00adship in the ana\u00adly\u00adsis of the\u00adse sys\u00adtems from a per\u00adspec\u00adti\u00adve of com\u00adplex sys\u00adtems. The addi\u00adti\u00adon of the new super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter clus\u00adter will sub\u00adstan\u00adti\u00adal\u00adly enhan\u00adce rese\u00adarch capa\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty and enable new chal\u00adlenges to be met.<\/p>\n

IFISC<\/span> is a joint rese\u00adarch insti\u00adtu\u00adte of the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of the Balea\u00adric Islands and the Spa\u00adnish Natio\u00adnal Rese\u00adarch Coun\u00adcil (CSIC<\/span>) crea\u00adted in 2007. Its mis\u00adsi\u00adon is the deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment of stra\u00adte\u00adgic and inter\u00addi\u00adsci\u00adpli\u00adna\u00adry rese\u00adarch within the frame\u00adwork of com\u00adplex sys\u00adtems. Sin\u00adce 2018, it is accre\u00addi\u00adted with the Unit of Excel\u00adlence Maria de Maez\u00adtu by the Spa\u00adnish Rese\u00adarch Agen\u00adcy (AEI<\/span>) as one of the most inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adve cen\u00adtres in sci\u00aden\u00adti\u00adfic rese\u00adarch in Spain. IFISC<\/span> is the only cent\u00adre in the Balea\u00adric Islands with such recognition.<\/p>\n
