The Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Flo\u00adri\u00adda and NVIDIA<\/span> Tues\u00adday unvei\u00adled a plan to build the world\u2019s fas\u00adtest AI<\/span> super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter in aca\u00adde\u00admia, deli\u00adve\u00adring 700 peta\u00adflops of AI<\/span> performance.<\/p>\n

The effort is ancho\u00adred by a $50 mil\u00adli\u00adon gift: $25 mil\u00adli\u00adon from alum\u00adnus and NVIDIA<\/span> co-foun\u00adder Chris Malachow\u00adsky and $25 mil\u00adli\u00adon in hard\u00adware, soft\u00adware, trai\u00adning and ser\u00advices from NVIDIA<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Working clo\u00adse\u00adly with NVIDIA<\/span>, UF<\/span> will boost the capa\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties of its exis\u00adting super\u00adcom\u00adpu\u00adter, HiP\u00ader\u00adGa\u00adtor, with the recent\u00adly announ\u00adced NVIDIA<\/span> DGX<\/span> Super\u00adPOD archi\u00adtec\u00adtu\u00adre<\/a>. The sys\u00adtem will be up and run\u00adning by ear\u00adly 2021, just a few weeks after it\u2019s delivered.<\/p>\n

This gives facul\u00adty and stu\u00addents within and bey\u00adond UF<\/span> the tools to app\u00adly AI<\/span> across a multi\u00adtu\u00adde of are\u00adas to address major chal\u00adlenges such as rising seas, aging popu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adons, data secu\u00adri\u00adty, per\u00adso\u00adna\u00adli\u00adzed medi\u00adci\u00adne, urban trans\u00adpor\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon and food inse\u00adcu\u00adri\u00adty. UF<\/span> expects to crea\u00adte 30,000 AI-enab\u00adled gra\u00addua\u00adtes by 2030.<\/p>\n

UF<\/span>, ran\u00adked seventh among public uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adties in the United Sta\u00adtes by US<\/span> News &<\/span> World Report<\/a> and aims to break into the top five, offers an extra\u00ador\u00addi\u00adna\u00adri\u00adly broad ran\u00adge of disci\u00adpli\u00adnes, Malachow\u00adsky said.<\/p>\n

The regi\u00adon is also a \u201cliving labo\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry for some of society\u2019s big\u00adgest chal\u00adlenges,\u201d Malachow\u00adsky said.<\/p>\n

Among them: sup\u00adport\u00ading agri\u00adcul\u00adtu\u00adre in a time of cli\u00adma\u00adte chan\u00adge, addres\u00adsing the needs of an aging popu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon, and mana\u00adging the effects of rising sea levels in a sta\u00adte with more than 1,300 miles of coastline.<\/p>\n
