Owned and ope\u00adra\u00adted by Ken\u00adne\u00adwick, Washing\u00adton-based Lamp\u00adson Inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal, Big Blue tra\u00advels the glo\u00adbe to con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion pro\u00adjects that need some of the world\u2019s hea\u00adviest loads slung sky\u00adward. At 460 feet long, the crane\u2019s main boom is 155 feet tal\u00adler than New York\u2019s Sta\u00adtue of Liberty.<\/p>\n

In Hills\u00adbo\u00adro, whe\u00adre Big Blue arri\u00adved this spring dis\u00adas\u00adsem\u00adbled on 100 semi\u00adt\u00adrai\u00adler trucks, Intel is gea\u00adring up to meet the incre\u00adasing mar\u00adket oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adty for its advan\u00adced chips that run ever\u00ady\u00adthing from spraw\u00adling inter\u00adnet data cen\u00adters to thin-and-powerful laptops.<\/p>\n

At D1X<\/span>, Big Blue began its big job on a pre-dawn mor\u00adning this spring hois\u00adting a 200-foot-long, 277-ton dou\u00adble-truss frame \u2013 the first of 46 that com\u00adpri\u00adse the factory\u2019s steel super\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtu\u00adre. In addi\u00adti\u00adon to the mons\u00adter beams, the D1X<\/span> expan\u00adsi\u00adon will be rein\u00adforced with 24,000 tons of rebar \u2014 twice the weight of the Eif\u00adfel Tower. Work on the D1X<\/span> expan\u00adsi\u00adon invol\u00adves more than 3,000 elec\u00adtri\u00adci\u00adans, plum\u00adbers, wel\u00adders and other trade workers, with phy\u00adsi\u00adcal distancing enforced across the job site.<\/p>\n
