Sam\u00adsung Elec\u00adtro\u00adnics Co., Ltd., the world lea\u00adder in advan\u00adced memo\u00adry tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy, today announ\u00adced that it has deve\u00adlo\u00adped the industry\u2019s first 14-nano\u00adme\u00adter (nm) based 16-giga\u00adbit (Gb) Low Power Dou\u00adble Data Rate 5X<\/span> (LPDDR5X<\/span>) DRAM<\/span>, desi\u00adgned to dri\u00adve fur\u00adther growth throug\u00adhout the high-speed data ser\u00advice appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons inclu\u00adding 5G<\/span>, arti\u00adfi\u00adci\u00adal intel\u00adli\u00adgence (AI<\/span>) and the metaverse.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>In recent years, hyper\u00adcon\u00adnec\u00adted mar\u00adket seg\u00adments such as AI<\/span>, aug\u00admen\u00adted rea\u00adli\u00adty (AR<\/span>) and the meta\u00adver\u00adse, which rely on extre\u00adme\u00adly fast lar\u00adge-sca\u00adle data pro\u00adces\u00adsing, have been rapidly expan\u00adding,\u201d said Sang\u00adJoon Hwang, seni\u00ador vice pre\u00adsi\u00addent and head of the DRAM<\/span> Design Team at Sam\u00adsung Elec\u00adtro\u00adnics.<\/strong> \u201cOur LPDDR5X<\/span> will broa\u00adden the use of high-per\u00adfor\u00admance, low-power memo\u00adry bey\u00adond smart\u00adphones and bring new capa\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties to AI-based edge appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons like ser\u00advers and even automobiles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Samsung\u2019s LPDDR5X<\/span> is a next-gene\u00adra\u00adti\u00adon mobi\u00adle DRAM<\/span> desi\u00adgned to signi\u00adfi\u00adcant\u00adly boost speed, capa\u00adci\u00adty and power savings for future 5G<\/span> appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons. In 2018, Sam\u00adsung deli\u00adver\u00aded the industry\u2019s first 8Gb LPDDR5<\/span> DRAM<\/span> and today, the com\u00adpa\u00adny is aggres\u00adsi\u00adve\u00adly moving bey\u00adond mobi\u00adle mar\u00adkets with the first 16Gb LPDDR5X<\/span> DRAM<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The LPDDR5X<\/span> DRAM<\/span> will offer data pro\u00adces\u00adsing speeds of up to 8.5 giga\u00adbits per second (Gbps), which are over 1.3 times fas\u00adter than LPDDR5<\/span>\u2019s 6.4Gbps. Lever\u00adaging the industry\u2019s most advan\u00adced 14nm DRAM<\/span> pro\u00adcess tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy, it will also use around 20% less power than LPDDR5<\/span> memo\u00adry. In addi\u00adti\u00adon, the 16Gb LPDDR5X<\/span> chip will enable up to 64 giga\u00adbytes (GB<\/span>) per memo\u00adry packa\u00adge, accom\u00admo\u00adda\u00adting incre\u00adasing demand for hig\u00adher-capa\u00adci\u00adty mobi\u00adle DRAM<\/span> worldwide.<\/p>\n

Later this year, Sam\u00adsung will begin col\u00adla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adting with glo\u00adbal chip\u00adset manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adr\u00aders to estab\u00adlish a more via\u00adble frame\u00adwork for the expan\u00adding world of digi\u00adtal rea\u00adli\u00adty, with its LPDDR5X<\/span> ser\u00adving as a key part of that foundation.<\/p>\n
