Today\u2019s announce\u00adment includes plans to invest an initi\u00adal 17 bil\u00adli\u00adon euros into a lea\u00adding-edge semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor fab mega-site in Ger\u00adma\u00adny, to crea\u00adte a new R&<\/span>D and design hub in France, and to invest in R&<\/span>D, manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adring and foundry ser\u00advices in Ire\u00adland, Ita\u00adly, Pol\u00adand and Spain. The invest\u00adment pro\u00adgram is cen\u00adte\u00adred around balan\u00adcing the glo\u00adbal semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor sup\u00adp\u00adly chain with a major expan\u00adsi\u00adon of Intel\u2019s pro\u00adduc\u00adtion capa\u00adci\u00adties in Euro\u00adpe. In the initi\u00adal pha\u00adse, Intel plans to deve\u00adlop two first-of-their-kind semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor fabs in Mag\u00adde\u00adburg, Ger\u00adma\u00adny, the capi\u00adtal of Sax\u00ado\u00adny-Anhalt. Plan\u00adning will start imme\u00addia\u00adte\u00adly, with con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion expec\u00adted to begin in the first half of 2023 and pro\u00adduc\u00adtion plan\u00adned to come online in 2027, pen\u00adding Euro\u00adpean Com\u00admis\u00adsi\u00adon appr\u00adoval. At the cen\u00adter of Euro\u00adpe and with top talent, superb infra\u00adstruc\u00adtu\u00adre and an exis\u00adting eco\u00adsys\u00adtem of sup\u00adpli\u00aders and cus\u00adto\u00admers, Ger\u00adma\u00adny is an ide\u00adal place to estab\u00adlish a new hub \u2013 a \u201cSili\u00adcon Junc\u00adtion\u201d \u2013 for advan\u00adced chip\u00adma\u00adking. Intel plans to initi\u00adal\u00adly invest 17 bil\u00adli\u00adon euros, crea\u00adting 7,000 con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adtion jobs over the cour\u00adse of the build, 3,000 per\u00adma\u00adnent high-tech jobs at Intel, and tens of thou\u00adsands of addi\u00adtio\u00adnal jobs across sup\u00adpli\u00aders and part\u00adners. Intel plans to refer to the new site as the Sili\u00adcon Junc\u00adtion, con\u00adnec\u00adting tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy. This Sili\u00adcon Junc\u00adtion will ser\u00adve as the con\u00adnec\u00adtion point for other cen\u00adters of inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon and manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adring across the coun\u00adtry and region.<\/p>\n

Intel is also con\u00adti\u00adnuing to invest in its Leixlip, Ire\u00adland, expan\u00adsi\u00adon pro\u00adject, spen\u00adding an addi\u00adtio\u00adnal 12 bil\u00adli\u00adon euros and doubling the manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adring space to bring Intel 4 pro\u00adcess tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy to Euro\u00adpe and expand foundry ser\u00advices. Once com\u00adple\u00adte, this expan\u00adsi\u00adon will bring Intel\u2019s total invest\u00adment in Ire\u00adland to more than 30 bil\u00adli\u00adon euros.<\/p>\n

In addi\u00adti\u00adon, Intel and Ita\u00adly have ente\u00adred into nego\u00adtia\u00adti\u00adons to enable a sta\u00adte-of-the-art back-end manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adring faci\u00adli\u00adty. With a poten\u00adti\u00adal invest\u00adment of up to 4.5 bil\u00adli\u00adon euros, this fac\u00adto\u00adry would crea\u00adte appro\u00adxi\u00adm\u00adate\u00adly 1,500 Intel jobs plus an addi\u00adtio\u00adnal 3,500 jobs across sup\u00adpli\u00aders and part\u00adners, with ope\u00adra\u00adti\u00adons to start bet\u00adween 2025 and 2027. Intel and Ita\u00adly aim to make this faci\u00adli\u00adty a first of its kind in the EU<\/span> with new and inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adve tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgies. This would be in addi\u00adti\u00adon to the foundry inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon and growth oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adties Intel expects to pur\u00adsue in Ita\u00adly based on its plan\u00adned acqui\u00adsi\u00adti\u00adon of Tower Semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor. Tower has a signi\u00adfi\u00adcant part\u00adner\u00adship with STMi\u00adcroelec\u00adtro\u00adnics, which has a fab in Agra\u00adte Bri\u00adanza, Italy. <\/p>\n

In total, Intel plans to spend more than 33 bil\u00adli\u00adon euros on the\u00adse manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adring invest\u00adments. By signi\u00adfi\u00adcant\u00adly incre\u00adasing its manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adring capa\u00adci\u00adties across the EU<\/span>, Intel would lay the ground\u00adwork to bring various parts of the semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor value chain clo\u00adser tog\u00ade\u00adther and increase sup\u00adp\u00adly chain resi\u00adli\u00aden\u00adcy in Europe.<\/p>\n

Streng\u00adthening Europe\u2019s World-Class Inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon Capabilities<\/strong><\/p>\n

R&<\/span>D and design are cri\u00adti\u00adcal to advan\u00adce lea\u00adding-edge semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adring. Euro\u00adpe is home to world-class uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adties, rese\u00adarch insti\u00adtu\u00adtes, and lea\u00adding chip desi\u00adgners and sup\u00adpli\u00aders. Sup\u00adport\u00ading this inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon clus\u00adter with addi\u00adtio\u00adnal invest\u00adments in R&<\/span>D and lin\u00adking them to Intel\u2019s lea\u00adding-edge manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adring plans will boost the cir\u00adcle of inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon in Euro\u00adpe, inclu\u00adding pro\u00advi\u00adding small and medi\u00adum enter\u00adpri\u00adses (SMEs) bet\u00adter access to cut\u00adting-edge technologies.<\/p>\n

Around Pla\u00adteau de Saclay, France, Intel plans to build its new Euro\u00adpean R&<\/span>D hub, crea\u00adting 1,000 new high-tech jobs at Intel, with 450 jobs available by the end of 2024. France will beco\u00adme Intel\u2019s Euro\u00adpean head\u00adquar\u00adters for high per\u00adfor\u00admance com\u00adpu\u00adting (HPC<\/span>) and arti\u00adfi\u00adci\u00adal intel\u00adli\u00adgence (AI<\/span>) design capa\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties. HPC<\/span> and AI<\/span> inno\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon will bene\u00adfit a broad set of indus\u00adtry sec\u00adtors, inclu\u00adding auto\u00admo\u00adti\u00adve, agri\u00adcul\u00adtu\u00adre, cli\u00adma\u00adte, drug dis\u00adco\u00advery, ener\u00adgy, geno\u00admics, life sci\u00aden\u00adces and secu\u00adri\u00adty \u2013 great\u00adly impro\u00adving the life of every European.<\/p>\n

In addi\u00adti\u00adon, Intel plans to estab\u00adlish its main Euro\u00adpean foundry design cen\u00adter in France, offe\u00adring design ser\u00advices and design col\u00adla\u00adte\u00adrals to French, Euro\u00adpean and world\u00adwi\u00adde indus\u00adtry part\u00adners and customers.<\/p>\n

In Gdansk, Pol\u00adand, Intel is incre\u00adasing its lab space by 50% with a focus on deve\u00adlo\u00adping solu\u00adti\u00adons in the fields of deep neu\u00adral net\u00adworks, audio, gra\u00adphics, data cen\u00adter and cloud com\u00adpu\u00adting. The expan\u00adsi\u00adon is expec\u00adted to be com\u00adple\u00adted in 2023.<\/p>\n
