Buil\u00adding 12, the home of MIT<\/span>.nano, will soon be named in honor of Lisa T. Su \u201990, SM<\/span> \u201991, PhD \u201994, chief exe\u00adcu\u00adti\u00adve offi\u00adcer and chair of the Board of Direc\u00adtors of AMD<\/span>. Su is the first MIT<\/span> alum\u00adna to make a gift for a buil\u00adding that will bear her own name. <\/p>\n

Lisa Su led AMD<\/span> to its stron\u00adgest per\u00adfor\u00admance in the company\u2019s more than 50-year histo\u00adry in 2021, brin\u00adging to mar\u00adket seve\u00adral lea\u00adding-edge tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgies. She pre\u00advious\u00adly ser\u00adved in mul\u00adti\u00adple roles at Frees\u00adca\u00adle Semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor Inc., IBM<\/span>, and Texas Instruments.<\/p>\n

Su ear\u00adned bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s, and doc\u00adto\u00adral degrees from MIT<\/span> in elec\u00adtri\u00adcal engi\u00adnee\u00adring. She has recei\u00adved many honors inclu\u00adding two named for MIT<\/span> alum\u00adni who were pio\u00adneers in her indus\u00adtry: the Glo\u00adbal Semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor Association\u2019s Dr. Mor\u00adris Chang Exem\u00adpla\u00adry Lea\u00adder\u00adship Award<\/a> and the Robert N. Noy\u00adce Medal<\/a>, the hig\u00adhest honor award\u00aded by the Insti\u00adtu\u00adte of Elec\u00adtri\u00adcal and Elec\u00adtro\u00adnics Engi\u00adneers. Loca\u00adted at the cen\u00adter of cam\u00adpus adja\u00adcent to the Gre\u00adat Dome, the Lisa T. Su Buil\u00adding was con\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adted to ser\u00adve as the campus\u2019s open-access faci\u00adli\u00adty for nan\u00ados\u00adca\u00adle sci\u00adence and engi\u00adnee\u00adring. Ope\u00adned in 2018, the buil\u00adding is nota\u00adble for expan\u00adsi\u00adve glass faca\u00addes that allow unob\u00ads\u00adtruc\u00adted views into the labo\u00adra\u00adto\u00adries, desi\u00adgned to visual\u00adly con\u00adnect rese\u00adar\u00adchers within the buil\u00adding and with the world out\u00adside. The design of the buil\u00adding has enli\u00advened its shared expe\u00adri\u00admen\u00adtal faci\u00adli\u00adties, dra\u00adwing the par\u00adti\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adti\u00adon of rese\u00adar\u00adchers from more than three dozen depart\u00adments, labs, and cen\u00adters, as well as exter\u00adnal users from indus\u00adtry, aca\u00adde\u00admia, and other organizations.<\/p>\n

Buil\u00adding 32 is named for Ray Sta\u00adta \u201957, SM<\/span> \u201958, co-foun\u00adder of Ana\u00adlog Devices, and his wife, Maria; his\u00adto\u00adric Buil\u00adding E52<\/span>, head\u00adquar\u00adters of the Depart\u00adment of Eco\u00adno\u00admics, was named in 2015 in honor of Mor\u00adris Chang \u201952, SM<\/span> \u201953, ME<\/span> \u201955, foun\u00adding chair\u00adman of the Tai\u00adwan Semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor Manu\u00adfac\u00adtu\u00adring Com\u00adpa\u00adny, and his wife, Sophie; and Buil\u00adding 54 was named in honor of Cecil Green \u201924, SM<\/span> \u201924, the co-foun\u00adder of Texas Instru\u00adments, and his wife, Ida. Addi\u00adtio\u00adnal MIT<\/span> alum\u00adni with pivo\u00adtal roles in the semi\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtor indus\u00adtry include Robert Noy\u00adce PhD \u201953, co-foun\u00adder of Intel and the first per\u00adson to make a mono\u00adli\u00adthic inte\u00adgra\u00adted micro\u00adchip, and Irwin Jacobs SM<\/span> \u201957, ScD \u201959, co-foun\u00adder of the glo\u00adbal tele\u00adcom\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons firm Qualcomm.<\/p>\n
