Das Tyan Tomcat K8S sollte die Basis für einen kleinen Arbeitsserver sein, der die Daten von (anfangs) drei Arbeitsrechner verwaltet. Da die Daten empfindlich sind, entschied ich mich für einen Raid1 Verbund, der neben der normalen Bandsicherung, Datensicherheit garantieren soll.

Das Board wurde bestückt mit einem 1,6Ghz Opteron 142, dem Standard Boxed Lüfter

Die Installation des Mainboards verlief problemlos. Da es nur ATX Format hat, kann es in jeden ATX Tower gesetzt werden, ein extra E-ATX Tower ist nicht notwendig. Als Netzteil habe ich dem System ein Tangan 380W Netzteil spendiert, sowie 2 zusätzliche Gehäuselüfter.
Das Board bietet die Möglichkeit anstelle eines 12V 4Pin Steckers einen Standard Laufwerks- Stecker zur zusätzlichen Versorgung zu nehmen, falls man kein aktuelles ATX Netzteil zur Hand hat.
Das Board bietet Platz für 6 Lüfteranschlüsse. Die Temperaturen und Drehzahlen können ausgelesen werden.

Bevor man die Installation des Betriebssystems beginnt, sollte man das Bios aktualisieren, da der Raidcontroller seit dem 1.0 Bios einige Verbesserungen erfahren hat.. Das einrichten des Raid Verbunds ist ein Kinderspiel und mir auf Anhieb gelungen (bis jetzt noch nie gemacht).

Das Bios selbst ist übersichtlich gehalten und bietet Kofigurationsmöglichkeiten für jedes Detail.

Hat man Fragen zu Einstellungen oder irgendwelchen anderen Details ist man im Handbuch gut aufgehoben, alle Anschlüsse und Einstellungen sind vorbildlich aufgeführt und beschrieben.


Als Betriebssystem dient Momentan WindowsXP Prof. da es gefordert wurde und mangels aktuell fehlender 64Bit Version nur dieses in Frage kam. Die Installation verlief Problemlos. Neueste Treiber findet man auf der Tyan Homepage.

Wie sich das System nach einem mehrwöchigen Dauertest schlägt, werde ich dann noch posten!

Der Server läuft jetzt seitdem ich ihn zusammengebaut habe durchweg stabil, ohne jegliche Fehler oder Abstürze... was anderes habe ich eigentlich auch nicht erwartet!
