In einer Erklärung gegenüber ZDNet hat HP verlauten lassen, ab dem vierten Quartal ProLiant Server mit AMD "Barcelona" Prozessoren an Kunden auszuliefern.

<blockquote>"As the undisputed leader in Opteron-based servers – more than 37 percent of all Opteron-based servers shipped are HP ProLiant – HP will broadly support Barcelona across its x86 ProLiant product line and will begin to ship systems to customers in Q407.

ProLiant servers based on AMD’s new Quad-core offerings will help customers increase energy efficiency and introduce or expand virtualization capabilities in their data center. Building on the virtualization technology embedded in Barcelona processors, customers can rely on HP’s balanced ProLiant architecture and unified management strategy to better manage workloads and consolidate their server footprint.

HP has a long-standing industry leadership position in virtualization and ProLiant is the number one server platform for VMware software. Anticipating the release of integrated hypervisor technology, HP had the forethought to design USB ports internal to HP ProLiant and HP BladeSystem server designs. This HP innovation offers customers a built-in design for a secure, unobstructed implementation of an integrated hypervisor. HP has an installed base of over 3.5 million ProLiant servers, including all currently shipping AMD Opteron-based platforms, with internal USB ports.

HP remains committed to offering the broadest choice of platforms to address the wide range of requirements our customers demand. We’re excited about the first shipment of Barcelona and look forward to bringing these new quad-core-based ProLiant servers to market by the end of the year."</blockquote>
