Nach etlichen <a href="http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi?category=2&id=1212655997" TARGET="_blank">Release Candidates</a> hat Mozilla heute die finale Version des freien Open-Source Internet-Browsers Firefox 3.0 veröffentlicht. Schneller, sicherer und praktischer soll er sein. Laut Release-Notes sind über 14.000 Verbesserungen eingeflossen. So soll vor allem die Geschwindigkeit deutlich erhöht und der Speicherverbrauch massiv gesenkt worden sein:<ul><i><font size="1">Firefox 3 is based on the Gecko 1.9 Web rendering platform, which has been under development for the past 34 months. Building on the previous release, Gecko 1.9 has more than 14,000 updates including some major re-architecting to provide improved performance, stability, rendering correctness, and code simplification and sustainability. Firefox 3 has been built on top of this new platform resulting in a more secure, easier to use, more personal product with a lot more under the hood to offer website and Firefox add-on developers.

* One-click site info: Click the site favicon in the location bar to see who owns the site and to check if your connection is protected from eavesdropping. Identity verification is prominently displayed and easier to understand. Da gings doch sowieso nur um Marketing. Außerdem wird es nur gewertet, wenn man über getfirefox.com saugt, was ja nicht jeder macht oder einige doppelt und dreifach saugen. Solche Rekordversuche sind nicht repräsentativ.

Ja RC2 = RC3 = Final mitsamt MD5 Hash aber das RC3 gab es nur wegen MacOS da dort ein kleiner Fehler im Update war und dabei wurde das ganze einfach komplett auf RC3 umbenannt obwohl sich bei allen anderen Versionen nichts änderte. Weiter Fehler etc wurden im RC2 vorerst nicht gefunden oder besser gesagt nicht für "wichtig genug" gehalten. Von daher RC2 = Final.

Seit wann ist testen = Zeit schinden? Wären noch Fehler gefunden worden, wäre der RC2/3 eben nicht zur Final geworden.

Nur mal so als Tipp: in der Meldung unter "Mirror 3" gibt's nen Download vom planet3dgames.de Server. Der sollte eigentlich genügend Kapazitäten haben

Haben sie schon im Vorfeld. Jetzt haben sie es wohl nicht mehr erwähnt, weil der ACID3 raus ist und dort der Opera 9.5 weiter ist.

Ich habe bei Mozilla die Erfahrung gemacht das die nightly builds extrem gut laufen, benutze seit über einem Jahr jeweils die nightly build. Im durchschnitt hat man alle 30 Tage mal einen gröberen Fehler, der ist aber am nächsten Tag behoben. Wirkliche Produktionsausfälle hatte ich noch nie.

Also, bei mir frisst er gerade mal die Hälfte an Speicher als meine Vorgängerversion...als schneller hingegen empfinde ich Ihn nivht unbedingt... was mich extrem stört ist die komische Darstellung der besuchten Seiten...
