Grafik Wars VI - ATI gegen NVIDIA

In der letzten Woche rumpelte es mal wieder zwischen AMD respektive ATI und NVIDIA, nachdem bekannt wurde, dass die neuesten Catalyst-Treiber Grafikdetails unterschlagen. Außerdem gab es mal wieder Diskussionen um DirectX 10.1 und dessen Nutzen.

<b>Bug oder Schummelei?</b>

Ein <a href="http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,665188/News/Catalyst-Optimierungen_Offizielles_Statement_von_AMD/Ati/" target="b">Offizielles Statement von AMD/Ati</a> bezeichnet die <a href="http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,665002/News/Neue_Catalyst-Treiber_unterschlagen_Grafikdetails/" target="b">unterschlagenen Grafikdetails</a> nun als Bug, nachdem sich NVIDIA stark bemühte dies als Cheating zu verbreiten, wie der Inquirer <a href="http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/10/30/desperate-nvidia-accuses-ati" target="b">berichtet</a>.

<b>DirectX 10.1</b>

Nachdem <a href="http://www.istartedsomething.com/20081029/windows-7-dwm-cuts-memory-consumption-by-50/" target="b">bekannt wurde</a>, dass Windows 7 die Direct3D 10.1 API unterstützen wird, gab es auch wieder Diskussionen um die Nutzung von DirectX 10.1 in aktuellen Spielen.

So verkündet Ubisoft lauthals, dass <a href="http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10237&Itemid=39" target="b">DirectX 10.1 nicht besser als DirectX 10 wäre</a>, obwohl man es im hauseigenen Far Cry 2 einsetzt.

Dafür kann das Spiel Stalker Clear Sky ab dem <a href="http://www.computerbase.de/news/software/spiele/actionspiele/2008/oktober/stalker_clear_sky_directx101-spiel/" target="b">Patch 1.5.06</a> mit DirectX 10.1 Unterstützung aufwarten. <a href="http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,665475/Test/Benchmark/Stalker_Clear_Sky_im_D3D101-Test/" target="b">Erste Tests</a> bescheinigen der DirectX 10.1 Version auch ein besseres Aussehen.


<b>ATI Switchable Graphics</b>

Laut <a href="http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20081029200458_ATI_Quietly_Enters_Switchable_Graphics_Technology_for_Intel_Centrino_2_Notebooks.html" target="b">Xbit labs</a> ist es nun auch mit Centrino 2 Notebooks möglich zwischen der integrierten Intel-Grafik und einer zusätzlichen AMD ATI Mobility Radeon hin und her zu schalten. Mit dem Namen <a href="http://ati.amd.com/technology/switchgraph/index.html" target="b">ATI Switchable Graphics Technology</a> will man sich aber anscheinend von der <a href="http://ati.amd.com/technology/hybridgraphics/index.html" target="b">ATI PowerXpress Technology</a> abgrenzen, die den Kombinationen aus integrierter und diskreter ATI-Grafik vorbehalten ist.
