Der freie Texteditor Notepad++ wurde in der Version 5.6 veröffentlicht. Das Programm ist ein mächtiger Ersatz für das Windows-eigene Notepad. So eignet sich Notepad++ besonders für Programmierer, da es Syntax-Hervorhebungen für eine Vielzahl von Programmiersprachen ermöglicht. In der neuen Version wurden einige Fehler beseitigt und neue Funktionen hinzugefügt, u.a. werden mit der neuen Version auch die Programmiersprachen COBOL, D, Gui4Cli, PowerShell und R unterstützt.
Notepad++ läuft unter Windows ab Windows 95 und Linux (über Wine).
<b>Update:</b> Kurz nach Erscheinen der Version 5.6 ist nun Version 5.6.1 mit weiteren Fehlerbehebungen und neuen Funktionen (siehe Changelog) erschienen.
