Microsoft plant offenbar massiven Hammer-Support

Das schreibt <a href="http://www.aceshardware.com/#55000487" TARGET="b">Acehardware</A> dazu:<ul><i>"Mark, however, assured us that while memory banks are connected to different CPUs, the OS still sees a unified memory space. CPU A can get data from memory bank B, and vice versa, courtesy of the HyperTransport controllers and the operating system. In other words, the operating system must have special SMP drivers to get a dual hammer system working. AMD assured us that drivers will of course be present at the launch of SledgeHammer. "</i></ul>Desweiteren meldet <a href="http://news.com.com/2100-1001-884391.html" TARGET="b">CNet</a>, daß Microsoft an einer Unterstützung für NUMA arbeite:<ul><i>Microsoft is building a high-end feature into Windows for speeding up data access in multiprocessor servers--a feature that to date has been available only in high-end Unix servers, the company said Tuesday.
The Redmond, Wash.-based software company is working on support for a technology called non-uniform memory access, or NUMA, one method for designing large servers crammed with processors, said Sean McGrane, program manager for Microsoft's top-end Datacenter server. The support will be available in two versions of the next edition of Windows for servers, .Net Enterprise Server and .Net Datacenter.

ccNUMA Support
Windows .NET Server supports ccNUMA and NUMA-"lite" designs. This provides for near:far memory access time ratios of 1:3 or less.

Q. So is it fair to say that in order to evaluate the effects of events on your company you have to know what their effects are going to be on other components of the ecosystem?
Sanders
A. Well, clearly, if there's no availability of chipsets, or no availability of adequate memory, or no availability of displays, or no availability of applications that will satisfy the customers, it's going to diminish demand for PCs, going to diminish demand for microprocessor and have an effect on my business.
später:
6 Q. Mr. Sanders, AMD has one major competitor in the
7 microprocessor business, does it not?
8 A. That's correct.
9 Q. And that would be the Intel Corporation; correct?
10 A. Yes.
11 Q. Which you somewhat commonly refer to as the 800 pound
12 gorilla in your industry; is that correct?
13 A. Yes.
14 Q. Now, your market share is between 10 and 20 percent of the
15 microprocessor?
16 A. You're outdated. Our market share five years ago was less
17 than 10 percent. Today it's over 20 percent.
18 Q. Okay. And Intel's market share?
19 A. They are the only other guy, so they got 80 percent.
20 Q. So it's basically a 20/80 split in the microprocessor
21 industry. Is that fair?
22 A. Currently.
23 Q. Just my point, sir. Because this year AMD plans to
24 introduce your next generation Windows-compatible
25 microprocessor code named the Hammer; correct, sir?
Sanders später:
2 Q. And you didn't know the terms proposed by either side;
3 correct?
4 A. That's correct.
Und dann wars vorbei....
7 Q. And after you had discussed being a witness you continued
8 to call by then telling Mr. Gates that you were hoping that he
9 had been calling you about Hammer; correct?
10 A. That's true.
11 Q. You said to Mr. Gates, as you continued the call, that you
12 wanted to talk about whether Microsoft would go public with an
13 announcement of Microsoft's public support for Hammer which was
14 important to AMD; correct?
15 A. Yes.

Hier http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/ir_site.zhtml?ticker=AMD&script=2400&item_id=611123
No, Du hast schon richtig verstanden.

Hm, ok ok.
