Die kostenlose Virtualisierungssoftware VirtualBox wurde in der Version 3.1.8 veröffentlicht. Das Bugfix-Release behebt eine Vielzahl von Fehlern.

Die Open Source Edition der Software kann, wie der Name vermuten lässt, als Source heruntergeladen werden, sie enthält allerdings nicht alle Funktionen der Closed Source Variante. Genaueres kann man auf der <a href="http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Editions" target="b">Projekt-Seite</a> nachlesen.

VirtualBox ist für Windows, Mac OS X, Linux und Solaris verfügbar. Zu den unterstützten Gastsystemen zählen neben Windows, Linux und Solaris auch OS/2, DOS und einige BSD-Derivate.

lese ich das richtig? Und was bedeutet dieses? Kann ich keine USB-Sticks anschliessen? Also keine TV-Sticks und ähnliches?

PS: Habe hier eine Avirameldung zu einem Virus eben bekommen: WidigiHelper.exe TR/Agent.dyfm
Kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass das von Heise, Planet3Dnow oder VirtualBox kommt (jene Seiten habe ich im Browser auf) ... ist das eine Fehlermedlung beim Patchen von Microsofts Sicherheitslücken vom 11.Mai 2010?

Genau umgekehrt, Du kannst sie anschließen und als USB2 an die VM weiter reichen. Mag sein das VMWare das inzwischen auch macht, aber zu Beginn war das (USB2) noch ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal.

USBoverIP könnte eine Lösung da wohl ein Ausweg sein, wenn man es braucht. Ohne es jetzt selbst getestet zu haben.
