Zum einen wird sich der Hersteller von Unterhaltungselektronik und Haushaltsgeräten, der zugleich einer der größten Handy-Hersteller ist, <i>LG Electronics</i> als sogenannter "Promoter" und zum anderen <i>Digital Media Professionals Inc.</i> (DMP) als "Contributor" in das Industriekonsortium einbringen. "Promoter" und "Contributor" sind dabei als Kategorie der Mitgliedschaft zu verstehen, wobei "Founding Member" dabei die höchste ist. Der OEM <i>LG Electronics</i> steht somit künftig innerhalb der Vereinigung eine Ebene unter den Gründungsmitgliedern <i>AMD</i>, <i>ARM</i>, <i>Imagination Technologies</i>, <i>MediaTek Inc.</i>, <i>Qualcomm</i>, <i>Samsung Electronics</i> und <i>Texas Instruments (TI)</i>. Zusammen mit den weiteren Mitgliedern <i>Apical</i>, <i>Arteris Inc.</i>, <i>MulticoreWare Inc.</i>, <i>Sonics</i>, <i>Symbio</i> und <i>Vivante Corporation</i>, die als "Supporter", "Contributor" oder "Associate" auftreten, ist das gemeinsame Ziel, die vielfältigen Fachkenntnis bei Forschung, Entwicklung, Produktion und Verkauf von HSA-IP in das HSA-Ökosystem einzubringen.<p style="clear:left;">

Das gemeinsame Ziel der HSA Foundation ist die Erschaffung eines freien Industriestandards für die heterogene Programmierung, der von einem möglichst breiten Spektrum an Geräten unterstützt wird. Dies soll durch die Entwicklung einer gemeinsamen Architekturspezifikation, der <i>Heterogeneous System Architecture</i> (HSA), erreicht werden. Software müsste demnach nur noch für diese eine Architektur entwickelt werden, könnte aber auf allen Prozessoren unterschiedlichster Geräteklassen und Hersteller laufen, die zur HSA kompatibel sind. Hierzu definiert die HSA unter anderem ein neues Speichermodell, bei dem sämtliche Recheneinheiten im selben Adressraum arbeiten, sodass das bisher kostspielige, aber notwendige Hin- und Herkopieren der Daten nicht länger durchgeführt werden muss. Zusammen mit dem neuen, vereinfachten Programmiermodell soll es Entwicklern ermöglicht werden, leichter die Fähigkeiten moderner CPUs, GPUs und SoCs, die unterschiedlichste Recheneinheiten auf einem Die vereinen, zu nutzen, was wiederum einer höheren Energieeffizienz zu Gute kommen soll. Mit den bereitgestellten Spezifikationen, Entwicklertools, SDKs, Bibliotheken, Dokumentationen, Trainingskursen, Support und vielem mehr will die HSA Foundation ein breites, unterstützendes Ökosystem erschaffen, welches die Implementierung innovativer Anwendungen vereinfacht und somit für das notwendige Interesse der Softwareentwickler und deren Unterstützung sorgen soll.
Mit seinem breiten Produktspektrum eröffnet <i>LG Electronics</i> der HSA Fondation ganz neue Möglichkeiten und Einblicke. Entsprechend freut sich auch Phil Rogers über das neueste Mitglied:

Der Entwickler von 2D/3D-Grafik-IP-Kernen, DMP, will durch seine Unterstützung der HSA Foundation die Entwicklung von GPGPU-Anwendungen für mobile Plattformen beschleunigen und vereinfachen. Entsprechende heterogenen Architekturen sollen eine bessere Nutzererfahrung bei der Bildverarbeitung und anderen grafikintensiven Anwendungen bieten. Beispielsweise im Nintendo 3DS arbeitet ein Grafikchip von DMP.
