SiS 735 DDR-Chipsatz wird eine Granate!

SiS: das verbinden die meisten User mit absoluten Low-End Produkten, langsam und unscheinbar. Bisher auch zurecht. Nun aber scheint sich im weit entfernen Osten eine mittlere Sensation anzubahnen. Vor einigen Wochen hatte SiS interne Benchmarks ihres neuen DDR-RAM Chipsatzes SiS 735 veröffentlicht, in dem er (logischerweise) sehr gut ausgesehen hatte. Was wir und die meisten anderen damals noch als Marketing-Gag abgetan haben, scheint sich nun langsam zu bewahrheiten.

FiringSquad hat als eine der ersten unabhängigen Seiten den Chipsatz getestet und ihn in einem Benchmark-Marathon aus allen möglichen Einsatzbereichen gegen AMD 760, VIA KT266, ALi MAGiK 1 und KT133A antreten lassen. Und was dort zu lesen ist verschlägt einem doch glatt die Sprache. VIA KT266, ALi MAGiK 1 und VIA KT133A spielen in diesem Streifen allenfalls eine Statistenrolle. In der Starbesetzung: AMD 760 und SiS 735 - Kopf an Kopf, mit deutlichen Tendenzen zugunsten des SiS 735:

"So far we're very impressed by the potential of the SiS 735 chipset. After all, it's already faster than the DDR offerings from ALi and VIA, and even slightly outpaces the most refined chipset of the Socket A DDR bunch: AMD-760.

Clearly a chipset faster than AMD-760 can be made, SiS has just proven that it's possible with 735. Once engineers from motherboard manufacturers get their hands dirty with SiS 735, performance will only increase even more. Since all of the AMD-760 motherboards have one oversight or another (not to mention the 2 DIMM socket limitation that plagues most boards), your best bet is to hold off a little bit longer and see what kind of features will be available with the SiS 735 motherboards once they're available. Wouldn't you be upset if a SiS 735 board with more performance and a greater feature set replaced your brand new AMD-760 motherboard, all at a lower price?"

Es scheint, als wäre SiS mit dem 735 ein großer Wurf gelungen. Wer nicht unbedingt sofort ein DDR-RAM System braucht, sollte vielleicht noch abwarten, was aus diesem Chipsatz wird. Langsamer wird er von BIOS-Update zu BIOS-Update sicherlich nicht werden ;-)
