Der Tech Report hat die aktuellen 760MPX Boards von Tyan, Gigabyte, Iwill und MSI in einem Round Up gegeneinander antreten lassen. Hier ein kleiner Auszug:
Different consumers will have different needs, and I can easily imagine situations where each of these boards is more desirable than the others. If I had to pick an overall winner, however, it would have to be the MSI K7D Master-L. It comes with an outstanding bundle of software and hardware that really makes it an exceptional value for the money. You may not find all of the included extras useful, but there are so many of them that you're bound to find something you like, and if you're going to try to overclock, this board is the best of the bunch (though I'm not sure that's saying much with this group).
Now, on a more general note: Yes, it's true that the 760MPX doesn't have the memory performance or features of the latest single-processor chipsets, and it's a virtual certainty it's always going to be that way. But how many applications are out there that will run great on an Athlon XP 2800+ but are unacceptably slow on a dually 2200+ setup? So I lose 80 or 100 frames per second in Q3A. That drops me to what, 220 or so? Wah. Sign me up.
Allerdings ist der AMD 760MPX Chipsatz mittlerweile in die Jahre gekommen und kann technisch nicht mehr mit den aktuellen Single CPU Chipsätzen mithalten. So machte sich der Tech Report in einer Kolumne Gedanken über die Zukunft der AthlonMP Plattform. Von AMD selber wird es keinen neuen Chipsatz mehr geben, sämtliche Kräfte werden in die Hammerarchitektur investiert. Bleiben nur noch VIA, SiS und nVidia als mögliche Kandidaten übrig. VIA hat bereits mit einem Dual Pentium III Chipsatz SMP Erfahrung, aber kein Speicherinterface was 2 hungrige Athlons füttern könnte. Dieses findet sich beim nForce Chipsatz; das Dualchannel RAM-Interface entspricht bei gleichem FSB und Speichertakt genau den Anforderungen von 2 Athlon CPU's. Zugleich könnte nVidia einen solchen Chip zusammen mit dem NV30 als ideale Grafikworkstation vermarkten. Doch leider scheint auch bei nVidia der Hammer im Vordergrund der aktuellen Entwicklungen zu stehen.
