AMD finally in Dell? (Update)

Alle Jubeljahre erscheint das Gerücht in neuem Gewand, dass DELL plant Prozessoren von AMD zu verbauen und mit dem momentanen Erfolg der Opteron Prozessoren scheint dieses Ziel erstmals in greifbarer Nähe zu liegen, die Abstände zwischen dem Auftauchen neuer Gerüchte werden nämlich immer kürzer.

Auch wenn bei Dell immer wieder betont wurde, dass man auf Kundenanfragen warten würde, schien die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass Dell wirklich AMD ins Portfolio aufnimmt, verschwindend gering.

"Most recently we've kind of gotten closer to evaluating and assessing and understanding Opteron/Athlon products. I've not moved toward using those in our technologies yet, but they get better every day. And as customers demand some of those products, then we move our strategies based on customer desire, customer need and obviously overall economics."

Laut einem Bericht der Susquehanna International Group of companies (SIG) Analysten Tai Nguyen und Victor Lim soll es nun angeblich wieder einmal soweit sein:

"Dell to use AMD's Opteron processors.
Based on our channel checks, AMD has finally been able to penetrate Dell with its Opteron processors targeting the server market. While Dell has always been an Intel exclusive OEM, our checks indicate that Dell is currently designing two dual-processor servers based on AMD?s Opteron processors. This would be the first time that AMD has been able to get in any of Dell?s systems and could open the door for AMD to expand its processor line-up into future Dell desktop PCs and notebooks, in our view."

Alles in allem also Business as usual, wieder einmal Gerüchte, die sich nicht bestätigen lassen, denn sicher kann man nur sein, wenn Michael Dell sich höchstselbst dazu erklärt, dass wirklich und wahrhaftig AMD Prozessoren von Dell verbaut werden.

Allein die Börse scheint geneigt, dem Analystenbericht glauben zu schenken, AMD Aktien notieren in New York momentan mit einem Plus von über 3 Prozent.

Update:

Nach einem Bericht von TheStreet.com hat Dell die Spekulationen dementiert.

"However, a spokesperson for Dell disputed the report. "We don't have any plans currently nor have we announced any plans to offer a product based on AMD," said Bruce Anderson."
