Über den kommenden AMD-Chipsatz GX890 und die neue Southbridge SB850 hatten wir auf Planet 3DNow! bereits mehrfach berichtet (siehe Links zum Thema). Aufgrund der langen Vorlaufzeit ging man allgemein davon aus, dass AMDs neuer Chipsatz die Keyfeatures des Jahres 2010 mit auf den Weg bekommen würde. Die Rede ist von "SATA III" (alias SATA Revision 3.0 oder SATA 6 Gbps) und USB 3.0.
Der taiwanesische Mainboard-Hersteller Biostar hat nun eine Pressemitteilung zu seiner kommenden GX890 Mainboard-Serie veröffentlicht, die Kauf-Interessenten allerdings auf den Boden der Tatsachen zurückholt:
Other cool features of Biostar's motherboard include the new SB850 southbridge sporting SATA6Gbps, but still needs external support for USB 3.0. Exactly when Biostar will release the new 890GX motherboard was not revealed, but we have indications for a March launch from other companies. Below is Biostar's complete press release with all of the juicy details;
BIOSTAR MICROTECH INT’L CORP., a professional manufacturer of motherboards today announced its compatible motherboard lineup “TA890GXE” constructed supporting AMD latest “Leo” Enthusiast platform with AM3 processors as well as upcoming “Thuban” Phenom II X6 6 core processor and with DDR3 support. The 890GX is basically an upgrade of the 790GX with internal graphics core remains at 700MHz, added DX10.1 and UVD 2.0 support. It can be setup to run Asymmetric CrossFire. Demnach wird die SB850 zwar in der Tat SATA III Support erhalten, jedoch ohne USB 3.0 Support daher kommen. Mainboard-Hersteller, die trotzdem USB 3.0 Support anbieten wollen, müssen daher entweder einen zusätzlichen USB 3.0 Chip auf dem Mainboard verlöten, oder eine USB 3.0 Karte beilegen, wie sie z.B. mit der ASUS U3S6 oder der Gigabyte GA-USB3.0 bereits existieren.
Noch sind die Features von AMD nicht offiziell bestätigt, demnach könnte es sich bisher noch um einen Irrtum der Biostar Presseabteilung handeln. Da jedoch bisher (die PM ist bereits 24 Stunden alt) noch kein Dementi oder eine Richtigstellung erschienen ist, dürften die Informationen wohl den Tatsachen entsprechen.
