Der freie Multiprotokoll-Messenger Pidgin wurde in der Version 2.10.2 veröffentlicht. Das Programm unterstützt grundsätzlich die Chat-Protokolle von AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, und Zephyr - weitere stehen über Plugins zur Verfügung. Aktuell werden 70 Sprachen unterstützt.
Pidgin läuft unter Windows ab Windows 2000, Mac OS X ab 10.4 und Linux. Für Ubuntu ist Pidgin via PPA verfügbar.
