In einer Pressemitteilung hat die taiwanesische Chipsatzschmiede VIA die Auslieferung des 100 Millionensten Chipsatz für AMD Systeme als historischen Meilenstein in den Beziehungen zwischen AMD und VIA bezeichnet. Bereits 1994 schloss sich VIA mit AMD zusammen und stellte einen Chipsatz für den 40 MHz schnellen Am486DX2 zur Verfügung. Und auch in den darauf folgenden Jahren konnte AMD mit der Unterstützung der kleinen Chipsatzschmiede rechnen, auch wenn dieser Weg teilweise ein wenig steinig verlief.
