"We are pleased to announce that build 1812 is now available for download from http://windowsbeta.microsoft.com. This build is an interim build and as such not the same quality as beta release. It is recommended that you only install this on test machines. This release is a little different from previous drops of the service pack.
Initially it will only be available in the self extracting executable (EXE) a.k.a. "Network install" package. We need your help to get the most testing possible for our service Pack Update. We are in the final stages of the SP1 / x64 beta program, so we appreciate your help in downloading this release quickly and sending your feedback right away.
English, German, and Japanese are all available now for download for x86 and IA64 processors. The x64 ISO images and the rest of the x86 and IA64 files will be posted for download in a few days. There will be a DDK released, but no SDK for this interim build."
Desweiteren ist bei PROneTworks zu lesen, dass weiterhin keine Retailversion von XP 64 geplant ist:
"Answers to x64 FAQ
1. Will Windows x64 Professional RTM be a available as an EVAL for download? (through CPP, or otherwise) 2. Will Windows x64 Server RTM be available as Retail? (or also OEM only) ------------------------- A1. The RTM will be an OEM only . I am not aware of use offering OEM products as time limited evals. I do not believe we do that with Windows XP Professional today so it would be a break in tradition at least to offer a desktop OS on time limited Eval via the public site. A2. All x64 products are planned to be OEM only."
Die offizielle Bezeichnung der 64-Bit Version soll übrigens "Windows XP Professional x64 Edition" sein.
