"Das Sample des Black Edition-Prozessors von AMD hat offenbart, dass kontinuierlich an der Verbesserung der Herstellungsprozesse gearbeitet wird. So wurde die Kernfrequenz des Prozessors bei gleichbleibender Kernspannung um 200 MHz gegenüber dem AM2+ -Pendant erhöht, gleichzeitig wurden die Betriebsspannung bei Cool'n'Quiet um 0,05 Volt gesenkt. Auch die Spannung der im Prozessor integrierten Northbridge wurde um 0,075 Volt abgesenkt - und das, obwohl diese mit 200 MHz mehr betrieben wird als beim X4 940 BE. Trotz des erhöhten Northbridgetaktes gilt noch immer unsere Aussage der vorangegangenen Phenom II-Artikel: durch einen erhöhten Northbridgetakt könnte die Performance in einigen Anwendungen noch signifikant gesteigert werden. Die Speicherbandbreite wird trotz 2 GHz Northbridge-Takt noch immer limitiert.

Vom aktuellen Standpunkt aus können wir es daher nicht uneingeschränkt empfehlen, einen Phenom II X4 955 zu kaufen, zumindest nicht zu diesem Zeitpunkt. Wir hatten mit beiden von uns verwendeten Mainboards BIOS-Probleme. Es kann daher durchaus passieren, dass dem geneigten User ähnliche Abenteuer bevorstehen, sodass der Kauf des neuen Flaggschiffes unter Umständen in Frust ausartet wenn der Bolide vielleicht nur mit 800 MHz läuft oder viel zu viel Strom verbraucht. Von dieser Problematik scheinen AM3-Mainboards stärker betroffen zu sein, denn auf dem zweiten uns zur Verfügung stehenden AM3-Mainboard wurde der Phenom II X4 955 BE noch gar nicht unterstützt. Auf der AM2+ -Plattform lief er hingegen, wenn auch zusammen mit unseren AM2+ Referenzboard mit viel zu heißem Kopf."

"AMD ist somit aktuell schnell, wieder zurück im Rennen, kann sich tatsächlich gegen ca. 200-Euro-CPUs beweisen, aber dies halt eben nur bezogen auf Preis und Geschwindigkeit. Damit sind Core 2 und Phenom II endgültig gleichauf, der Core i7 allerdings bleibt zumindest in Anwendungen unerreicht.
