opteron vs. xeon in 64bit

ein test, der in die nächste zukunft weist, also in die nächsten sechs monate:
getestet wurden p4 D, opteron, xeon unter suse linux in 64bit...
highlights in der reihenfolge, wie ich sie las:
- opteron@2,6ghz wegen c&q im idle unter 20w verbrauch!!!
- dual-core unter suse sles9 noch nicht lauffähig
mysql, mit gcc nicht mit intel-compiler:
- opteron gewinnt über 30% bei umstieg von 32 auf 64bit
- xeon verliert über 10% bei umstieg 32 auf 64bit
-> vielleicht compiler-problem, aber db2 werte weisen bei niedrigerem niveau auf das gleiche problem: xeon profitiert weniger als opteron
- xeon verliert 10%-leistung bei mysql, wenn ht aktiviert!!!
db2:
- dual-core ist deutlich besser als 2xsingle-core
- in 64bit gewinnt der opteron deutlich, der xeon verliert leicht
- db2 skaliert sehr gut mit der anzahl der cores -> lieber mehr cores als mehr takt
und noch sehr interessant:
" We noticed with Vtune and Code Analyst that the Branch Prediction Unit of the Xeon Nocona and Irwindale does a marvellous job and predicts between 96% (MySQL) and 97% (DB2) of the branches correctly, while the Opteron's BPU is about 93% and 94% correct of the time. MySQL consists of 20% branches, and DB2 has only 16% branches. The L2-caches also do a good job with only 2% of data demands being covered by the RAM, and a 98% hitrate on the L1 and L2-caches."
