Prozessoren von Chartered werden ausgeliefert

In einer Pressemitteilung gab AMD bekannt, dass seit Juni bei Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing gefertigte und nun ausgelieferte Prozessoren zum Betriebsergebnis beitragen.

AMD and Chartered ramped 300mm production at Fab 7 in record time, hitting all major milestones and starting production at mature yields. Initial shipments out of Chartered consisted of microprocessors manufactured on 90nm process technology. The ramp of volume production at Chartered combined with recent announcements in Dresden shows that AMD will have the ability to intelligently scale and flex production in line with customer demand.

“We selected Chartered to augment our production because of a shared philosophy of flexibility and agility in manufacturing,” said Daryl Ostrander, senior vice president, logic technology at AMD. “Through successful integration of select advanced process control modules we’ve enabled an on-time start-up with the same standards of quality, efficiency and responsiveness that AMD customers have come to expect from our manufacturing operations.”

AMD and Chartered originally announced a manufacturing agreement in late 2004 which called for volume production of AMD64 products in the second half of 2006. With this announcement, AMD has once again demonstrated a track-record of flawless execution and on-time delivery in manufacturing to provide additional flex capacity for its customers. AMD will continue to enhance operations at Chartered with a planned transition to 65nm process technology in mid-2007.

“Achieving mature yields on-plan and ahead of schedule for 90nm volume production in support of AMD’s expanding market opportunity have been our collective goals since we initiated our manufacturing collaboration in 2004, and we are equally proud of these results,” said Kay Chai “KC” Ang, senior vice president of fab operations at Chartered. “Our close working relationship with AMD has not only enhanced our ability to meet and exceed its aggressive manufacturing requirements, but has provided pass-through benefits resulting from our implementation of Automated Precision Manufacturing know-how from AMD.”

Super! Ja, dann wird es immer wahrscheinlicher, dass Dell tatsächlich auch AMD-Prozessoren in Desktop-System verbaut. Die Kapazitäten sind nun da.

Dell to disclose "pricing initiative" on Thursday

Na welch Wunder! Um mal den Satz zuende zu zitieren "plans to announce a pricing initiative on Thursday that a company spokesman said would make it easier for consumers and small businesses to do business with the company." Und "It certainly is no secret that Dell has not done very well in the consumer PC market and has struggled there from a margin standpoint."

Intel-Prozessoren werden den High-End- und den Midrange-Markt bedienen. Und im günstigen Consumer- und Low-End-Markt, wo Dell bislang nicht gut aussah, werden dann wie schon bei den anderen OEMs AMD64-CPUs herhalten. Als AMDler muss man dabei net so traurig sein, dass es net für den High-End-Markt langt (bzw. dafür gibt's ja dann als Nischensparte Alienware). Im Low-End-Markt werden ordentlich PCs abgesetzt und insofern holt sich AMD da Gewinne nicht durch große Margen, aber dafür umso mehr durch einen großen Absatz raus. Anders geht's für AMD jetzt auch gar net, wo ihnen die Performancekrone bald entrissen wird. Sie müssen sich wieder auf ihren Basis-Markt konzentrieren - und das ist der günstige Einstiegsmarkt. Und wie gesagt, jetzt sind auch die Kapazitäten da (Fab 30, 36 und 7 [Chartered]). Insofern ist es wenig überraschend, wenn Dell eine entsprechende PM am Dienstag ablässt.

hat keiner von euch angst dass die qualität, der prozessoren nicht der aus dresden entspricht? in dresden wird einfach mal schon länger gefertigt und ihr seht ja was da für schmuckstücke rauskaummen, teilweise bis 3ghz.

Weiß man welche Güte die ausgeliefteren Prozessoren von Chartered haben werden? Ich meine ob dort hauptsächlich Athlon 64 3500+ vom Band laufen oder auch vereinzelt Athlon 64 FX-62 und ähnliche größere Kaliber. Und wird es ein Unterscheidungsmerkmal bei der Prozessorkennung zur Auseinaderhaltung geben? Unterm Umständen könnte eine solche ja ganz angebracht sein.

Die Qualität ist die gleiche. Läuft alles identisch zu Dresden. Also keine Angst, sind keine CPU's 2.er Wahl.

Und selbst wenn da nur CPUs rauskommen, die max 2300 Mhz schaffen, dann werden die eben alle als x2 4200+ verkauft und fertig.

Wer einen 4200er bekommt der auf 2.2 stabil rennt, dann passt alles, wenn er keien 3 GHz schafft, dann ist das ja kein Fehler von AMD.

Andere Frage: Wird an den CPUs ersichtlich sein, wo sie gefertigt wurden?

Es wird wohl andere Chargenbezeichnungen geben, also die vier Buchstaben vor der Produktionswoche. Aber da muß wohl die OC-Community dann mühsam eine Liste machen, denn ich denke nicht, daß dort extra ein Buchstabe für Singapur oder Dresden draufsteht.

Aber ich denke auch nicht, daß sich die CPUs in der Übertaktbarkeit so arg unterscheiden werden. Schließlich hat AMD seine Produktionsmethodik ja an Chartered weitergegeben (Teil des Vertrages), d.h. auch die Qualitätssicherung in den Produktionsschritten dürfte gleich hoch sein, und man wird wohl im Inneren der Fab nicht feststellen können, ob man in Dresden oder Singapur ist.
