Das freie Simulationsspiel OpenTTD ist 1.0.0-RC1 verfügbar. Damit ist es unwahrscheinlich, dass bis zum Erscheinen von Version 1.0.0 noch weitere Funktionen hinzugefügt werden - Vorrang hat jetzt das Bugfixing.
Wer Mitte der 90er schon am PC gespielt hat, kennt sicher noch Chris Sawyer's Transport Tycoon Deluxe. Die freie Implementierung namens OpenTTD macht es möglich sich diesen Klassiker wieder einmal anzuschauen. Bisher benötigte man dafür immer noch die Original-Grafiken und -Sounds, also auch eine Lizenz des Originals. Mittlerweile sind aber die Projekte OpenGFX und OpenSFX, welche für freie Grafiken und Sounds sorgen, so weit, dass man ohne die Originaldateien auskommen sollte. Für die letzte <i>stable</i> Version 0.7.5 benötigt man allerdings immer noch Dateien vom Original.
Weiterhin ist OpenTTD nicht nur ein einfacher Klon, sondern bringt auch viele Neuerungen mit. So gibt es einen integrierten Multiplayer-Modus, der IP-basierte Spiele mit bis zu 255 Teilnehmern zulässt und auch dedizierte Server unterstützt. Darüberhinaus sind zahlreiche Erweiterungen im Spiel vorhandener Objekte verfügbar.
Im Gegensatz zum Original läuft OpenTTD nicht nur unter DOS und Windows, sondern auch unter Mac OS X, Linux, BSD, OS/2 und auf weiteren Plattformen.

Nach wir vor ein Klassiker, hab schon ein größeres Spiel ohne Probleme laufen gehabt.
Die neuen Grafiken sind leider nicht so gut und intuitiv wie die alten, aber ich werd mich schon dran gewöhnen. Was mir nach wie vor fehlt ist ein bisschen Tiefgang im Sinne einer Wirtschaftssimulation. Alles wirft Gewinn ohne Ende ab. Pleite zu gehen ist quasi unmöglich, im Multiplayer gehts nur darum wer den längsten Atem hat, alles sofort zuzubauen.
Trotzdem ein toller Fortschritt! Die finale Version ist übrigens für den 01. April angedacht. Mal sehen ob sie den Termin halten können

Genial, ne neue Version! Das Spiel hat mir schon so manche Stunde geraubt und das läuft sogar eine Stunde lang auf Akku auf meinem Laptop!
Wobei mich ein Problemchen plagt. Wie lassen sich normale Gleise in Ein-Gleis-Systeme oder MagLev's umbauen? Das Tool hab ich gefunden, ich habe auch E-Loks zur Verfügung und mir auch, quasi zu Testzwecken mal eine KI, die entsprechende Gleise verbaut hat, einverleibt. Aber trotzdem kann ich keine neuartigen Schienen bauen, wohl aber neuartige in alte Schienen/Gleise downgraden. Oo Das über Google gefundene und häufiger genannte DropDown-Menü, was bei dem Umbaubutton aufklappen soll, gibts auch nicht.
Edit: Erledigt! Ein paar Seiten weiter über Google gab's die Antwort doch noch. Yay! =)

Mit der InfrastruktureSharing Version kann man im Multiplayer seine Strecken untereinande3r mitbenutzen. Das funfktioniert schon sehr gut und macht, zocke es öfters mit Kumpels im Lan, sehr viel Spaß.
