News Catalyst-Treiber erhält Windows Hardware Certification für Windows 8

Damit haben die Entwickler einen wichtigen Meilenstein erreicht, da somit AMD als offizieller Partner beim Launch von <i>Windows 8</i> fungieren kann und das "Windows-8-Compatible"-Logo verwenden darf. Laut den Angaben von AMD wurde der zertifizierte Treiber, der das neue Treibermodell WDDM 1.2 vollständig unterstützt, erfolgreich auf einigen diskreten Grafikkarten-Serien aus der Radeon- und FirePro-Familie sowie den Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) getestet. Um welche Produkte es sich im Detail handelt, soll erst zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt bekanntgegeben werden. Es ist aber anzunehmen, dass es sich im wesentlichen um Grafikbeschleuniger handeln dürfte, die zum DirectX-11-Standard kompatibel sind. Schließlich hatte das Unternehmen mehrfach angekündigt, sich zunächst auf diese Generationen konzentrieren zu wollen. Transcoding performance may also be improved for supporting applications.</li><li>Optimized screen rotation for rotation-aware devices.</li><li>Improved sleep/resume performance.</li><li>Optimized GPU power consumption.</li></ul></i></td></tr></tbody></table></div>

Eine zertifizierte Version soll erst nach eingehender Qualitätskontrolle zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt ("later this summer") folgen, was angesichts der Probleme nicht weiter verwundert, die in den Release Notes des Preview-Treibers aufgelistet sind.
