SiS gab heute bekannt, dass der jüngste Spross, die SiS965L Southbridge, auch den PCI-Express Standard unterstützen wird. Diese kann ebenfalls bei den aktuellen Athlon 64 Plattformen, dem SiS755 sowie dem FXSiS755 verwendet werden. Nachfolgend die komplette Pressemitteilung.<ul><i>"Taipei, January 15, 2003- Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS), a leading supplier of core logic chipsets, today announced the release of it’s newest high performance Southbridge for the PC market. The 965L supports the new PCI-Express standard for high-speed, next generation peripheral connectivity, and is totally compatible with current-generation SiS chipsets.
The new PCI-Express standard is phasing out the standard PCI slots that have been the basis of the PC hardware I/O system for the past decade. With PCI-Express, users can expect their PC’s to be upgradeable to the next generation of high-performance peripheral devices designed specifically for the higher bandwidth that PCI-Express offers, such as graphic cards, WLAN cards, sound cards, HDD, capture cards and printers.
The new SiS965L Southbridge will be compatible with current SiS chipsets, such as SiS661FX, SiS648FX, SiS655FX, SiS655TX, SjiS748, SiS755, SiS755FX and SiS760. Manufacturers can benefit from greater compatibility and improved sales and support by using a current generation SiS chipset updated to the new PCI-Express standard with the SiS965L Southbridge.
The SiS965L features a robust feature set for today’s demanding and varied PC applications, including support for 2 PCI-Express ports, 8 USB 2.0 ports, 8 channel sound, 10/100 LAN, 2 SATA (supporting hot plug functionality) and 4 PATA. Naja, ist wahrscheinlich nicht die dicke x16 AGP-Ersatz Lösung, aber besser als nichts. Immerhin hat man dann keine Bandbreitenprobleme mit GBit Lan & RAID mehr. MuTIOL mit 1 GByte/s Bandbreite sollte auch noch aussreichen. Mal schauen wann die ersten Northbridges mit PCI-E rauskommen.
