SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) - The state of New York got a boost Wednesday with plans by IBM Corp. to lead a group of technology giants to invest a total $2.5 billion to develop the state's nanotechnology and semiconductor industries.

As part of the projects, IBM , along with Sony Corp. , Infineon Technologies , Advanced Micro Devices , Charter Communications , Samsung and Toshiba will invest $1.9 billion in developing and manufacturing for nanotechnology in East Fishkill, N.Y.
