Mit dem Opteron 256 und dem Opteron 856 stellt AMD nun zwei Server-Prozessoren mit einer Taktfrequenz von 3 GHz vor und verbilligt einige Modelle der 8xx Reihe. Die Athlon 64 Single- und Dual-Core Prozessoren verteuern sich dagegen leicht.
Auffällig an den Preissteigerungen ist dabei, dass die Prozessorpreise nun exakt den Preisen entsprechen, die für die Prozessoren für den Sockel AM2 gelten sollen (wir <a href="http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi?category=1&id=1144170311">berichteten</a>).

Der Opteron 256 und der Opteron 856 nehmen nun auch preislich die Spitzenplätze in ihrer Modellreihe ein und die darunter platzierten Prozessoren verbilligen sich dementsprechend. Beim Opteron 846 HE sehen wir dabei mit knapp 35 Prozent die größte Senkung.

Intel hat gesagt sie würden keinen Preis- sondern einen Qualitäts-Krieg führen, auf jeden fall haben sie die zukünftige performance Krone für sich beansprucht.

Die Zeit der Single-Core ist nun einmal abgelaufen.
Zudem lassen die schnellen Opterone vermuten, daß aktuelle FX57 aktuell ein sehr hohes OC-Potential erreicht haben sollten.
Bei allem sollte man beachten:
3,0 GHz ist im 'alten' Stepping E möglich
Kein 65nm oder Stepping-Revisionen nötig, um diesen Wert zu erreichen.
Läßt erahnen, was AMD bzgl. 65nm (dann Dual-Core 2* 3,0++ GHz ?) oder selbst im Stepping F in 90nm noch liefern kann.
Aber es gibt auch schon Infos zu geplanten Conroe-Preisen, und danach würden die eine CPU mit der Leistung eines FX-60 für gerade mal ein Drittel dessen Preises verkaufen wollen. Könnte man schon auch als Preiskrieg bezeichnen

Offenbar sind die neuen Opterons so ne Art Lückenfüller bis zum Sockel-F-Launch, denn für den Sockel F soll es ja angeblich keine Single-Cores mehr geben. Auf jeden Fall ist es gut zu wissen, dass AMD den Herstellungsprozess mittlerweile so gut im Griff hat, dass sie in der Lage sind, zumindest Single-Core-CPUs mit 3 GHz anzubieten. Das lässt hoffen, dass nach der Umstellung auf 65nm auch die Dual-Cores mit 3 GHz und mehr laufen werden
