Download VirtualBox 3.0.2

Nachdem Sun mit der Version 3.0.0 kürzlich den Funktionsumfang der kostenlosen Virtualisierungssoftware VirtualBox erweitert hat, werden nun wieder einige Versionen nachgeschoben, die der Behebung von Fehlern dienen. Den Anfang macht die Version 3.0.2, die vor wenigen Minuten veröffentlicht wurde.

VirtualBox ist für Windows, Mac OS X, Linux und Solaris verfügbar. Zu den unterstützten Gastsystemen zählen neben Windows, Linux und Solaris auch OS/2, DOS und einige BSD-Derivate.

Hmm, Windows 2000 lässt sich mit dieser Version zwar installieren, aber nicht booten.

/Edit: Okay, man muss für die Installation die 3D-Beschleunigung abschalten.

Ich bin bisher bei der 2.x geblieben weil mir der große Versionssprung (in Bezug auf Stabilität/Reife) bedenklich vorkam.

Wie sind denn die Praxiserfahrungen? 3D mal außen vor, wie stehts mit der Stabilität?

Das was ich mit Windows 2000 gemacht habe, ging alles. Allerdings erscheint mir VirtualBox arg langsam. Ich hab zuletzt die Version 1.5.x intensiver genutzt und die habe ich als sehr schnell (dafür verbugt) in Erinnerung. Bei dem Win2k mit Version 3.0.2 lief das meiste in Zeitlupe (besonders der Netzwerkzugriff). Außerdem war die CPU-Last selbst wenn das Win2k idlete sehr hoch (75% und mehr).

Habe weiterhin probleme mit SMP bei einem W7 guest. Zwar kann ich nun auch alte, 1-prozessor installationen auf 2 kerne umstellen ohne das es BSoD und freezes hagelt, aber eine sauber neuinstallation eines guests mit z.b. 4 kernen funktioniert immer noch nicht - bleibt schon beim expandieren der installationsfiles hängen.

Aber selbst ein W7-guest mit zwei kernen erscheint so oder so zum teil massiv träger als ein alter single prozessor guest... alles nichts halbes und nichts ganzen.

Vista als guest macht eigentlich keinen ärger mit SMP. Aber auch weniger "spass" als W7 in einer VM.

Am besten vorläufig einfach bei 2.x bleiben wenn das problemlos läuft.
