Von der kostenlosen Virtualisierungssoftware VirtualBox wurde erneut ein Update veröffentlicht. Mit der Version 3.0.8 wird eine Reihe von Fehlern behoben.

VirtualBox ist für Windows, Mac OS X, Linux und Solaris verfügbar. Zu den unterstützten Gastsystemen zählen neben Windows, Linux und Solaris auch OS/2, DOS und einige BSD-Derivate.

Welche Hardware nutzt das virtuelle Betriebssystem dann? Die Originale vom PC oder werdem Grafik- und Sound Hardware etc. emuliert?
 
Die CPU wird virtualisiert, Grafik- und Soundkarte werden emuliert. Eine Virtualisierung von PCI-Geräten ist derzeit technisch nicht möglich. Das soll sich soviel ich weiß mit dem Prozessor-/Chipsatzfeature IOMMU ändern. IOMMU ist für Desktopsysteme noch nicht verfügbar, im Serverbereich wird es von AMD gerade eingeführt, wenn ich das richtig im Kopf habe.
