<div class="newsfloatleft"><a href="http://www.virtualbox.org/"><img src="http://www.planet3dnow.de/photoplog/images/54308/1_VBox_Logo.png" border="1" alt="VirtualBox"></a></div>Für die kostenlose Virtualisierungssoftware VirtualBox wurde in der Bugfix-Release 4.0.10 veröffentlicht, mit dem eine größere Anzahl an Fehlern behoben wird. Die Open Source Edition der Software kann, wie der Name vermuten lässt, als Source heruntergeladen werden, sie enthält allerdings nicht alle Funktionen der Closed Source Variante. VirtualBox ist für Windows, Mac OS X, Linux und Solaris verfügbar. Zu den unterstützten Gastsystemen zählen neben Windows, Mac OS X, Linux und Solaris auch OS/2, DOS und einige BSD-Derivate.<p style="clear:left">

Das ist doch eigentlich nicht mehr ganz richtig. Früher war das wirklich so, aber im Prinzip sind nun die binäre und die source Variante identisch.
Die zusätzlichen Änderungen werden jetzt nur noch über das Erweiterungspaket bereitgestellt, welches man allerdings auch mit der selbst kompilierten Version verwenden kann.

Nach so langer Zeit nur so wenig Änderungen? Kommt da Oracles Rotstift zum Tragen, denn schließlich halten die ja nicht viel von OpenSource (siehe MySQL, OpenOffice).

Wieso hätten sie dann die binäre Version relizensieren sollen?
Ne, ich bezweifle, dass das was mit Oracles Politik zu tun hat. Vielmehr handelt es sich hier ja um ein Bugfix-Release. Wesentliche Neuerungen sind wohl eher mit 4.1, 4.5, 5.0, oder wie das dann auch immer heißt, zu erwarten.
Edit: Oder hat hier jetzt schon die Versionspolitik von Mozilla um sich gegriffen?
Hmm? Schau mal auf die Release-Daten der letzten Versionen. Da liegen immer 1-2 Monate dazwischen und von der Anzahl der Änderungen her ist das ein typisches 1-Monats-Release.

Oh hab nur auf den News-Flash der Homepage geschaut und da war der letzte Eintrag von Dezember. Da hab ich nicht aufgepasst.
Dennoch habe ich irgendwie das Gefühl, dass neue Features irgendwie net mehr kommen. Kann natürlich gewollt sein, dass man den aktuellen Code erstmal stabiler bekommen will und dann wieder neue Features integriert. Von außem immer schwer zu beurteilen.
