The 2.5 gigapixel photo
TNO has produced the largest digital panoramic photo in the world. So, what do we mean by large? After all, modern consumer cameras can easily take a picture with 5 million pixels. Well, we are talking about a photo of completely different dimensions. One with 2.5 billion pixels - that's 500 times more pixels. If this photo were printed, it would measure 6.67 m by 2.67 m (300 dpi). The photograph shows Delft and its surroundings in the autumn of 2004. It was taken the top of the Electrical Engineering faculty of Delft University, at a height of about 100 m, by TNO.

hab das mal bei so nem anderen großen Bild gesehn, das war so ne Landschaftaufnahme, und da hat man "einfach" mehrere Bilder gemacht und die dann aneinander gefügt.

File formats
After some initial experiments it became clear that existing panorama stitching tools and file formats were not capable of handling multi-gigapixel images. A simple example is the TIF file format, which only supports files smaller than 4 GBytes due to the 32-bit offsets used in its tables. An uncompressed 2 gigapixel photo is at least 6 Gbytes (3 bytes per pixel) and therefore too big for the TIF file format. Together with the definition of a new, large-image file format, many existing software tools and scripts had to be rewritten.

was mich bei solchen Bildern immer verwundert ist, dass es ja eigendlich schon ne weile dauern sollte bis man 600 Bilder gemacht hat, daher müssten die bewegten Objekte (Autos Personen usw.) ja irgendwo doppelt sein, falls die gerade zufällig nochmal gerade dann vorbeikommen wenn die das nächste Foto machen.

es gab doch mal vom ground zero so ein riesiges bild, was 500mb groß war

von diesen risiegen Bildern gibt es ziehmlich viele,
vom ground zero kannte ich bis jetzt nur eine 40 mb version, und die war schon ganz schön beeindruckend.

Ich wette die habe irgendwo in dem Bild was versteckt. Ein nackter Hintern des Fotografen oder ähnliches.
Scherz beiseite. Da gibt es auf jeden Fall noch einiges zu entdecken!
"All 600 photos were taken over a period of 1 hour and 15 minutes. Taking a single photo and moving the camera to a new position took approximately seven seconds. Thanks to the long 'exposure time', some interesting artefacts are visible at the edges of the various photos. They include a parked car that seems to merge into a bus and a walking torso."
Ich wette die habe irgendwo in dem Bild was versteckt. Ein nackter Hintern des Fotografen oder ähnliches.

Na mich hat das Bild auch fasziniert und habe schon wie powersupply2003 gedacht hat den Beweis, das bei bewegenden Objekten es etwas mekrwürdig aussieht.
