Der freie Media Player Songbird ist in der Version 1.4.1 erschienen. Das Programm basiert auf Mozilla's XUL und nutzt zum Abspielen von Audio- und Video-Dateien das GStreamer Framework. Durch die Integration der Gecko-Engine lassen sich mit Songbird auch Internetseiten aufrufen, deren Medien-Inhalte dann automatisch in einer Webplaylist zusammengefasst werden. Zusätzlich sind jede Menge Musik-Dienste im Programm verlinkt. Wem das noch nicht genügt, der kann sich Songbird mit den vielen verfügbaren Addons zurechtkonfigurieren - diese ergänzen die Medienzentrale dann u.a. um iPod-Zugriff, Unterstützung für geschützte AAC-Dateien oder Informationen über den aktuellen Künstler.
Songbird ist für Windows ab Windows XP SP2, Mac OS X 10.5+ (Intel) und Linux verfügbar.
