New Features
This release of the ATI Catalyst™ Software Suite includes Crossfire™ enhancements that enable the Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR) Crossfire rendering mode by default so that users will see significant performance benefits across all AFR compatible applications immediately (including newly released applications, so users do not have to wait for a future ATI Catalyst™ release to add Crossfire™ support for newly released titles). Future ATI Catalyst™ releases will add further Crossfire™ performance gains once new applications have been profiled specifically for Crossfire™.

Overlay Theater Mode UpdateCatalyst® 6.5 introduces a new option for Overlay Theater Mode. The new option, Standard Dual Mode is available for Radeon® X1x00 series of graphics cards. This new feature now allows users to playback video using hardware acceleration when it is played on both displays (clone mode). Hardware acceleration decreases CPU utilization, allowing the PC to run smoother and faster. When using two displays in clone mode, video playback will be identically displayed on both display devices. For Radeon® X1000 series products (Avivo Video) overlay is per-display and true overlay will be used for both displays. For pre-Radeon® X1x00 boards, there is only one hardware overlay, so video on the second clone display device is either software-rendered (i.e. "Same on all" selection) or the Windows desktop is displayed but the video will not show through the color key (i.e., "Standard mode" selection). Adaptive Anti-Aliasing for ATI Radeon® 9500 and above Adaptive Anti-Aliasing smoothes out the surfaces in an entire scene unlike Multi-Sample which works only on edge surfaces. Adaptive AA has the ability to work on transparent or opaque texels, like those that comprise a surface texture. Previously this feature was available on the ATI Radeon® X1000 family products. Starting with Catalyst® 6.5, Adaptive AA support is now available to ATI Radeon® 9500 products and above.

New Features This section provides information on new features that are introduced in this release of Catalyst®. New features include:
- H.264 Hardware Acceleration
- ATI CrossFire™ Support for the ATI Radeon® X1800
- HQV Video Benchmark Support
H.264 Hardware Acceleration
Catalyst® 5.13 software suite introduces H.264 hardware acceleration for the ATI Radeon® X1800, X1600, and X1300 product line. H.264 is advanced video coding that provides significant reduction in bit-rate compared to standards such as MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. The ATI Radeon® X1800, X1600, and X1300 products provide hardware acceleration for the playback of high-definition content that is encoded using H.264. Using the Catalyst® software suite 5.13, along with the Cyberlink H.264 decoder available from http://www.ati.com/technology/h264.html provides H.264 hardware acceleration.
ATI CrossFire™ Support for the ATI Radeon® X1800
ATI CrossFire™ allows for multiple Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to be placed within a single PC, to provide superior gaming performance. The Catalyst® 5.13 software suite is the first Catalyst® to provide ATI CrossFire™ support. CrossFire™ support is available when an ATI Radeon® X1800 CrossFire™ Edition product is installed with another Radeon® X1800 product. Further information on ATI CrossFire™ can be found at: http://www.ati.com/technology/crossfire/faq.html
HQV Video Benchmark Support
The Catalyst® software suite 5.13 introduces full support for the HQV DVD Benchmark. These driver tweaks provide a better DVD image quality, and higher benchmark scores.
