Realtek hat mit der Version 2.29 ein neues Treiberpaket für seine High Definition Audio-Codecs veröffentlicht. HDA-Soundchips aus Realteks ALC88x Serie sind z.B. auf vielen AM2, aktuellen AM2+ und neuen AM3 Mainboards anzutreffen und bieten 8-Kanal High Definition Sound. Seit der Version 2.25 ist nun auch ein WHQL-Treiber für Microsofts Windows 7 vorhanden. Zudem wurde der HDMI-Treiber aktualisiert, der auf vielen ATI Radeon Grafikkarten für die Sound-Ausgabe am HDMI-Anschluss verantwortlich ist.

ATI hat sein CATALYST Grafikkarten- und Chipsatz-Treiberpaket in der Version 9.7 für Windows Vista und Windows 7 zum Download freigegeben, die Version für Windows XP soll im Laufe des heutigen Tages folgen. Voraussetzung für das CATALYST Control Center (CCC) ist unter Windows XP ein installiertes Microsoft .NET Framework. Eine aktuelle Version des .NET Framework kann man über die Microsoft Windows Update Seite beziehen.

Gut anderthalb Monate nach der ersten Beta wurde nun die zweite Beta-Version von Opera 10 veröffentlicht. Opera 10 bietet unter anderem visuelle Tabs und eine nach eigenen Aussagen deutlich verbesserte Geschwindigkeit.

Nachdem eine kritische Lücke im Just-in-time (JIT) JavaScript Compiler bekannt wurde, hat Mozilla reagiert und Firefox in der Version 3.5.1 bereitgestellt.

SystemRescueCd, eine auf Gentoo basierende Linux Boot-CD, ist in der Version 1.2.2 erschienen. Mit der CD können zahlreiche Aufgaben rund um das Bearbeiten und Erstellen von Partitionen vorgenommen werden. Dabei werden zahlreiche Dateisysteme unterstützt.
Zu diesen gehören Ext2/Ext3, ReiserFS, Reiser4, XFS, JFS, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660, Samba und NFS.

Nachdem Sun mit der Version 3.0.0 kürzlich den Funktionsumfang der kostenlosen Virtualisierungssoftware VirtualBox erweitert hat, werden nun wieder einige Versionen nachgeschoben, die der Behebung von Fehlern dienen. Den Anfang macht die Version 3.0.2, die vor wenigen Minuten veröffentlicht wurde.
VirtualBox ist für Windows, Mac OS X, Linux und Solaris verfügbar. Zu den unterstützten Gastsystemen zählen neben Windows, Linux und Solaris auch OS/2, DOS und einige BSD-Derivate.

Der VideoLAN VLC media player - ein universeller Multiformat-Mediaplayer ist in der Version 1.0.0 erschienen.
Der VLC media player unterstützt bereits von Haus aus unzählige Audio- und Video-Codecs und wird für eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Betriebssysteme bereitgestellt. Eine Übersicht der bereits integrierten Codecs und der unterstützten Plattformen zeigt eine Feature-Übersicht. Der VLC media player wird als kostenlose Freeware unter der GNU General Public License angeboten.

FurMark ist ein OpenGL Benchmark und geeignet als Stabilitätstest für Grafikkarten, da es in der Lage ist die GPU extrem auszulasten und aufzuheizen. Die neue Version 1.7.0 bringt eine ganze Reihe von Verbesserungen.

Von dem freien Betriebssystem ReactOS, dessen Entwickler nichts weniger als volle Kompatibilität zu Microsoft Windows anstreben, wurde heute die Version 0.3.10 veröffentlicht. Für diese Version wurde der Schwerpunkt auf die Hardwarekompatibilität gelegt. Dank eines neuen ATA-Treibers werden erstmals SATA-Laufwerke unterstützt. Insgesamt werden nun 20 verschiedene Netzwerkchips unterstützt. Auch USB-Tastaturen und -Mäuse werden zum Teil (wieder) unterstützt. Ebenfalls neu ist die Möglichkeit, ReactOS auf Partitionen zu installieren, die größer als 8 GB sind. Nach aktueller Planung soll in etwa 2 bis 3 Monaten noch eine Version 0.3.11 folgen, bevor mit der Version 0.4.0 das Ende der Alpha-Phase eingeläutet wird.

Wer ReactOS einmal selbst ausprobieren möchte, sollte sich folgenden Hinweis zu Herzen nehmen:
Bitte beachten Sie, dass sich ReactOS 0.3.10 noch in der alpha-Phase befindet und es derzeit nicht empfehlenswert ist, es für die tägliche Arbeit zu verwenden.
Bereits Mitte Juni hatte NVIDIA den neuen offiziellen Grafiktreiber 186.18 WHQL für Windows veröffentlicht. Alle Infos dazu sind in unserer damaligen Meldung zu finden.
Gestern nun hat NVIDIA den Grafiktreiber 186.18 für Windows XP und Windows XP x64 noch einmal veröffentlicht. Freigabedatum ist demnach nicht mehr der 18.06.2009, sondern der 02.07.2009. Ursache für den zweiten Versuch soll ein Fehler in der Installationsroutine der XP-Versionen gewesen sein.
