Yes, but there are currently a few known issues that the development team are working on. DirectSound hardware acceleration no longer exists on Vista (resulting in broken support for 5.1/7.1 speakers); Skinned scrollbars may not be displayed correctly; Video playback may be a bit flaky (most likely related to old/buggy video drivers or directshow codecs) or doesn't work at all with Aero enabled; and DWM/Flip3D displays the built-in Classic skin for all Modern skins. We hope to resolve most if not all of these issues in forthcoming Winamp releases.

Mit OpenOffice 2.4.0 wurde eine neue Version des OpenSource Office-Paketes veröffentlicht. Die zahlreichen Änderungen gegenüber der Vorgängerversion kann man der OpenOffice Wiki entnehmen.
Mit der Version 1.1.9 wurde ein Update der SeaMonkey Suite veröffentlicht, die Web-Browser, E-Mail Client, Newsreader, ein IRC-Programm und einen HTML-Editor umfasst.
Das Thema Mikroruckler bei Spielen nervt die Anwender von Multi-GPU Systemen seit jeher. Da die Last bei der Grafikberechnung auf zwei GPUs verteilt wird, kann es sein, dass eine GPU für eine Szene aufgrund höherer Komplexität länger braucht, als die andere. Diese Differenzen mussen regelmäßig synchronisiert werden. In ungünstigen Fällen kann es dabei zu leichten Verzögerungen kommen, wofür sich in der Berichterstattung der Begriff "Mikroruckler" eingebürgert hat. Diese Probleme sind Bauart bedingt und nur schwer zu eliminieren.
Bei ATI dagegen hatte sich mit dem letzten Catalyst-Treiber 8.3 offenbar ein Problem eingeschlichen, das "Intermittent stuttering issues" auch bei normalen Single-GPU Karten hervorrufen konnte. Gegen diese Ruckler hat ATI nun einen Hotfix veröffentlicht. Die unterstützten Produkte und Systeme:

EVEREST ist der inoffizielle Nachfolger des System-Informations-Tools Aida32, dessen Entwicklung im August 2004 aufgegeben wurde (wir berichteten). EVEREST wird inzwischen nur noch als kommerzielle und kostenpflichtige Ultimate- oder Corporate-Edition angeboten. TrueCrypt ist eine Open-Source-Software zur real-time OTF (on-the-fly) Verschlüsselung von Festplatten, Wechselmedien oder zur Erstellung verschlüsselter Partitionen oder versteckter Container (Hidden Volumes).

Resolved incompatibilities:
On computers with certain hardware configurations, resuming from hibernation failed when the system partition was encrypted. Note: If you encountered this problem, the content of RAM may have been saved unencrypted to the hibernation file. You can erase such data, for example, by decrypting the system partition/drive (select System > Permanently Decrypt System Partition/Drive) and then encrypting it again. (Windows Vista/XP/2008/2003)
Remark: As Microsoft does not provide any API for handling hibernation, all non-Microsoft developers of disk encryption software are forced to modify undocumented components of Windows in order to allow users to encrypt hibernation files. Therefore, no disk encryption software (except for Microsoft's BitLocker) can guarantee that hibernation files will always be encrypted. At anytime, Microsoft can arbitrarily modify components of Windows (using the Auto Update feature of Windows) that are not publicly documented or accessible via a public API. Any such change, or the use of an untypical or custom storage device driver, may cause any non-Microsoft disk encryption software to fail to encrypt the hibernation file. We plan to file a complaint with Microsoft (and if rejected, with the European Commission) about this issue, also due to the fact that Microsoft's disk encryption software, BitLocker, is not disadvantaged by this.
Workaround for a bug in the BIOS of some Apple computers that prevented users from entering pre-boot authentication passwords and controlling the TrueCrypt Boot Loader. (Windows Vista/XP/2008/2003)

Die Nero AG hat für seine Brennsuite Nero 8 ein weiteres Update veröffentlicht. Leider sind mal wieder keine Changelogs verfügbar. Es dürften allerdings wie üblich ein paar Bugs gefixt und einige neu unterstützte Brenner hinzugefügt worden sein.
Bei der freien Verschlüsselungssoftware TrueCrypt gibt es derzeit ordentlich Bewegung bei der Entwicklung. Erst kürzlich wurde mit der Version 5.0 die Möglichkeit geschaffen, auch Bootpartitionen zu verschlüsseln. Inzwischen wurde die Version 5.1 nachgeschoben, die etliche Verbesserungen enthält:

If a non-cascade encryption algorithm is used (i.e., AES, Serpent, or Twofish), the TrueCrypt Boot Loader is now small enough so that a backup of the TrueCrypt Boot Loader can be (and is) stored in the first drive cylinder. Whenever the TrueCrypt Boot Loader is damaged, its backup copy is run automatically instead.
As a result of this improvement, the following problem will no longer occur: Certain inappropriately designed activation software (used for activation of some third-party software) writes data to the first drive cylinder, thus damaging the TrueCrypt Boot Loader. The affected users had to use the TrueCrypt Rescue Disk to repair the TrueCrypt Boot Loader. This will no longer be necessary after upgrading to this version of TrueCrypt (provided that the system partition/drive is encrypted using a non-cascade encryption algorithm, i.e., AES, Serpent, or Twofish).
Note: If your system partition/drive is currently encrypted using a non-cascade encryption algorithm (i.e., AES, Serpent, or Twofish), a backup copy of the TrueCrypt Boot Loader will be automatically stored in the first drive cylinder when you upgrade to this version of TrueCrypt. * The minimum memory requirements for the TrueCrypt Boot Loader have been reduced from 42 KB to 27 KB (twenty-seven kilobytes). Microsoft hat diese Tage nicht nur seine 3D-API DirectX in einer neuen Redistversion veröffentlicht, sondern auch sein .NET Framework 3.5. Redistributable Packages sind interessant für die Offlineinstallation ohne Internet. Ansonsten sind die Onlineinstaller sinnvoller, da hier nur jene Dateien heruntergeladen werden, die für das System auch tatsächlich nötig sind.
Das beliebte Tool "CoreTemp" zum Auslesen der Prozessor-Spannungen und -Temperaturen ist gestern in der Version 0.97.1 erschienen. Die Änderungen betreffen vorwiegend den Support der AMD Phenom Prozessoren:

ATI hat sein CATALYST Grafikkarten- und Chipsatz-Treiberpaket in der Version 8.3 zum Download freigegeben. Voraussetzung für das CATALYST Control Center (CCC*) ist unter Windows XP ein installiertes Microsoft .NET Framework. Eine aktuelle Version des .NET Framework kann man über die Microsoft Windows Update Seite beziehen.
