The SeaMonkey name was adopted by the project leading group (dubbed "SeaMonkey Council") after considering a long list of community-proposed names - it was decided that the long-lived internal code name still suited the project best. The council is working on having this name trademarked with the help of the Mozilla Foundation.

While the Foundation doesn't consider the new SeaMonkey application to be an officially supported upgrade path for Mozilla suite users, it provides the newly founded project with assistance in the form of much-needed project infrastructure, and cooperates with SeaMonkey developers. Development of SeaMonkey produces many improvements which are contributed back to the Mozilla codebase, much of which is shared with products including Firefox and Thunderbird.

Opera Introduces Fraud Protection, Powered by GeoTrust and PhishTank New release expands Opera's commitment to secure browsing

Opera Software today introduced real-time Fraud Protection in its award-winning Web browser. Fraud Protection includes technology from GeoTrust, the leading digital certificate provider, and PhishTank, a collaborative clearing house for data and information about phishing on the Internet. Fraud Protection is available in Opera 9.1, the newest version of Opera's Web browser. Opera is available completely free at www.opera.com.

"The key to an effective phishing defense is speed and responsiveness," said security expert Bruce Schneier, CTO of BT Counterpane and an Opera user. "Opera's Fraud Protection delivers both by providing the user with real-time anti-phishing detection, augmented with nearly immediate identification of suspected phishing sites."

Phishing is a form of online fraud in which a malicious party convinces users to visit a forged Web site. That site is designed to mimic a trusted site in order to trick users into divulging personal information, credit card numbers, or bank account details. According to PhishTank, the month of November alone saw more than 9,628 unique phishing attacks. Since most phishing sites are taken down quickly, only real-time protection holds the key to consistent safety.

New Features

This release of Catalyst® introduces software CrossFire™ support for any combination of Radeon® X1900 and X1950 installed in a system running either the Windows XP or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition operating system.

Note: Software CrossFire™ is not supported on the Radeon® X1950 Pro product line.

Performance Improvement

A performance increase is noticed in Call of Duty 2. Performance improves as much as 12.5% at 19x12 settings and as much as 10.5% at 12x10 settings on X1900 Software Crossfire configurations. Largest gains seen with 4xAA enabled.

Microsoft hat beim IE7 die Benutzeroberfläche vollständig überarbeitet, der Browser unterstützt nun u.a. das von der Konkurrenz und diversen IE-Browseraufsätzen bekannte Tabbed Browsing, RSS Feeds, eine frei konfigurierbare Suchleiste und verfügt über einen integrierten Phishing-Schutz. Eine Übersicht der diversen Neuerungen führt Microsoft in einer Feature-Liste auf.

Zudem hat Microsoft eine Webseite eingerichtetet, die verschiedene Erweiterungen für den IE7 bereithält.

Nach Veröffentlichung der finalen englischen Version vor rund einer Woche (wir berichteten) steht nun auch die deutschsprachige Version zum Download bereit.

Today we released Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP. I encourage everyone to download the final version from [url]http://www.microsoft.com/ie[/url].

We listened carefully to feedback from many sources (including this blog) and worked hard to deliver a safer browser that makes everyday tasks easier. When I first posted publicly about IE7, I wrote that we would go further to defend users from phishing and malicious software. The Phishing Filter and the architectural work in IE7 around networking and ActiveX opt-in will help keep users more secure. IE7 also delivers a much easier browsing experience with features like tabbed browsing (especially with QuickTabs), shrink-to-fit printing, an easily customizable search box, and a new design that leaves more screen real estate for the web site you’re viewing. IE7’s CSS improvements are incredibly important for developers as many of you have made quite clear. I also think IE7’s RSS experience and platform are important, powerful, and innovative.

In addition to our release of IE7, Yahoo! has a customized version of the browser available today and over the next few days partners such as Weather.com and USA TODAY will offer their own customized versions. These versions will tailor the user experience with specific toolbars, additional search engines, favorites, and RSS feeds.

I want to thank everyone who provided feedback as we developed and fine-tuned Internet Explorer 7. Over the 20 months since Bill Gates first announced our commitment to deliver IE7, we released five betas and a release candidate to millions of users worldwide. With each release, your feedback helped us make IE7 better. Your contributions, ideas, and direct comments were crucial in helping us prioritize and focus our work. I can’t imagine delivering this product without the tremendous cooperation we enjoyed from so many of you as well as developers and partners.

That said, we’re not done. Even as we put the finishing touches on Windows Vista and release all the remaining language versions of IE7, we have already started work on the next versions of Internet Explorer. We’ll post more here soon about our plans for the product and our plans for listening to you.

Mit dem Update auf die Version 9.02 wird u.a. ein Fehler in der RSA-Implementierung beseitigt, der dafür sorgte, dass ungültige Zertifikate nicht korrekt erkannt wurden, was zur Ausspähung von Daten hätte benutzt werden können.

Des Weiteren wurde ein Bug im Mail-Client behoben, der zu einer hohen Prozessorlast führte.

New Features

This release of Catalyst® introduces CrossFire™ support for the Intel 965 Chipset. This feature is available for D3D applications, and is supported on ATI Radeon® X1900 CrossFire™ edition products. This feature is supported under the Windows XP operating system.

Performance Improvement

As with most Catalyst® releases, performance has increased in various situations.

• 3DMark2006 overall performance improves 6.7-23.7% with anti-aliasing enabled due to improvements in HyperZ efficiency on the Radeon® X1300, X1600 and X1800 series of products. Internet Explorer 7 Release Candidate Now Available

This morning we released our first public release candidate, IE7 RC1, for Windows XP. You can download it at [url]http://www.microsoft.com/ie[/url].

The RC1 build includes improvements in performance, stability, security, and application compatibility. You may not notice many visible changes from the Beta 3 release; all we did was listen to your feedback, fix bugs that you reported, and make final adjustments to our CSS support. I do want to call attention to two changes in particular.

First, IE7 RC1 setup automatically detects and uninstalls previous IE7 betas before trying to install IE7 so you don’t have to. We’ll post more detail on the install/uninstall process very soon.

Second, IE7 RC1 will automatically detect add-ons with known stability or compatibility problems so that end users can easily get a newer version or temporarily turn the add-on off. The most common cause of the “IE7 installed but won’t run” problem reports we’ve gotten was old versions of some toolbars. We’ve worked closely with toolbar vendors to make this experience better. Again, we’ll post more detail on this topic here very soon.

A release candidate is fundamentally different from a beta. With the exception of a very short list of issues we’re aware of and working on, we think the product is done. We’re looking to enthusiasts, developers, and IT Pros to tell us if this build has any critical, must-fix before we ship issues. The real world is much richer than our test environment and I appreciate the feedback that has helped us make the product better.

The English RC1 release will be followed by localized versions in mid-September. We’ll continue with Arabic, Finnish, German, and Japanese as before but also add French and Spanish versions with this release. Web sites and applications that are compatible with this RC1 build should be compatible with the final version of IE7 when we release it later this year. (If you’re a developer or IT Pro, I strongly recommend using our Readiness Toolkit and Application Compatibility Toolkit.)

Depending on your feedback, we may post another release candidate. We’re still on track to ship the final IE7 release in the 4th calendar quarter.

Version 3.60

1. Multithreaded version of RAR compression algorithm improves
the compression speed on computers with several CPU,
dual core CPU and processors with hyperthreading technology.
Multithreading is enabled by default, but you can disable it
in "General" part of "Settings" dialog.

In the command line mode you can control multithreading with
-mt switch.

2. WinRAR can display the folder tree panel allowing to navigate
in disk and archive folders. Use "Options/Folder tree" submenu
to enable the folder tree. It can be configured separately
in file and archive management modes.

Folder tree replaces "Browse for folder" command previously
available in "File" menu and uses its Ctrl+T keyboard shortcut.

3. Now WinRAR "Rename" command also works with ZIP archives.
Previous versions could rename files only in RAR archives.

4. Added decompression of LZH archives created with "-lh7-" algorithm.

5. New "Remove duplicate folders from extraction path" option
in "Settings/Compression" dialog.

If this option is on and you unpack an archive which root folder
has no files and only one 'somename' folder and if destination
folder is new or empty and also ends with '/somename', WinRAR
will exclude one 'somename' from resulting 'somename/somename' path.

6. New "Define volume sizes..." button in "Settings/Compression".
This button activates "Define volume sizes" dialog. Here you
can customize the list of predefined volume sizes associated
with "Split to volumes, bytes" field in archiving dialog.

7. Speed of RAR general compression increased for some data types.
Depending on data type and size the gain may achieve 5 - 15%.

8. New "Rename automatically" option in the extraction dialog
and command line -or switch to rename extracted files automatically
if file with the same name already exists. You can also enable
the auto-renaming mode directly from the overwrite confirmation
prompt with "Rename All" button.

Renamed files will get names like 'filename(N).txt',
where 'filename.txt' is the original file name and 'N' is a number.

9. "Set modification time" option in "Advanced" part of extraction
dialog is accessible also for ZIP archives. Previously it could be
changed only for RAR archives.

10. "Multithreading" option added to "Benchmark and hardware test"
command, so you can compare performance of usual and multithreaded
versions of RAR compression algorithm.

11. New 'ch' (change archive parameters) command line mode command.
Its purpose is to apply switches like -av, -tl and -cl to archive.

12. New 'cv' command line mode command. It provides the command line
interface to WinRAR "Convert archives" command. It is supported
only by winrar.exe, not by rar.exe.

13. New command line -sl and -sm switches to set size
limits of processing files.

14. New command line -fcu[file] switch allows to read archive
comments from Unicode files. It also modifies behavior
of "cw" command, setting the comment output format to Unicode.

15. 7Z added to list of formats stored without compression
when using -ms switch without a parameter.

16. Switch -e[+] is now supported by most of command line
operations including extracting and deleting files. Previously
it was supported by only archiving command.

17. It is allowed to use environment variables in archive name
in archiving dialog, in destination path in extraction dialog,
in folder names on "Compression" and "Paths" pages in WinRAR
settings. For example, you can enter '%temp%' in "Folder for
temporary files" field.

The SeaMonkey name was adopted by the project leading group (dubbed "SeaMonkey Council") after considering a long list of community-proposed names - it was decided that the long-lived internal code name still suited the project best. It was no easy decision, but it has a certain appeal - the suite is already known by SeaMonkey within the developer community. The council is working on having this name trademarked with the help of the Mozilla Foundation.

While the Foundation doesn't consider the new SeaMonkey application to be an officially supported upgrade path for Mozilla suite users, it provides the newly founded project with assistance in the form of much-needed project infrastructure, and cooperates with SeaMonkey developers. Development of SeaMonkey produces many improvements which are contributed back to the Mozilla codebase, much of which is shared with products including Firefox and Thunderbird.

• If you choose to update SeaMonkey when it notifies you that an update is available, the update page will load in a more useful browser window (with navigation buttons and toolbars) (Bug 334903)
